Is there an advantage to a wound E string? I was wondering if they made it easier to play higher on the E string or if there is some other advantage or perhaps disadvantage to it.

Ive used  wound E's a few times Kevin. They seem pretty suited to fiddle music and also tend to cut out the dreaded "whistle". I think the unwound E sings better, but the wound E responds to the bow better.

There is no shame in playing twinkle, youre playing Mozart

We sell a Kaplan non whistling E but I have never even tried it. Maybe next on the list :-)
