What made you decide to play the violin?
As a child, I was expected to play Violin, because my father did. I was sent to lessons with a tiny little fiddle and there were great expectations. However, the pain from poor shoulder rests, and the dedication were not in the little Jewish kid from Tacoma Washington, to follow in Pappa's foot steps. Perhaps if Pappa were a resident father and leader of the family things would have been different. I attempted again to Learn the fiddle when the Pappa returned briefly to live with us. He left again and I lost interest in the fiddle . I just recently began lessons again with FM and I find that it isn't as difficult as I remember. So with dedication and success, in ten years or so, I may be able to do more than scratch the strings and frustrate my poor dog.

How long have you been playing the violin?
Like I said, just a few months, and hopefully I can say that I can play the VIOLIN SOON!

How often do you play? How long are your practice sessions?
I have been working…

Hi BC! First of all, you do NOT look 64, if that is a recent pic! Wow! You look 40-ish! L'Chayim and Simcha! heart

My dog (every dog I have had) often whines when I play- it aint your playin', it's the dog's sensitive ears. Cats however love fiddle. I had a Siamese who was fascinated by my fiddle, and besides sitting in the case (what cat doesn't?) would sit on my shoulder while I played (:

Happy fiddling BC!

Yes, that is a recent picture.  within the past year at least.  I pretty much look the same.  I have been told I look 40ish before.  ????  I feel 80ish, LOL.

I has a Siamese once that sat on my shoulder in the car.  That cat loved to go for a ride in the car.

L'chayim v'shalom simcha.  Mavimana ivriet?

BCShalom, enjoyed reading your interview. There is so much there to which we beginning violinists can relate. Especially liked your answer to what music means to you.  Thanks for sharing, and hope you find time to practice! violin-studentcoffee

That was a great interview. You remind me so much of a friend I had as a child.  Main difference is his father played a horn.

I'm sure that once you finish your violin kit you'll be fixing that Lincoln. Keep us posted on the build.

Keven, yeah the build.  Seems I have to dry the back plate and the ribs out to fit the top plate.  Seems that the humidity in Washington state splays the ribs out so the top plate won't fit with any overhang.  So, I either have to wait for dryer weather, move to Arizona, or somewhere to finish this fiddle.  Stewart McDonald sent my a specially selected top that was supposed to have fit, but it still doesn't. Awww such is life.  I guess I will move to Arizona....

Your greatest personal experience with playing?

When it doesn’t sound like crap and people recognize what the tune is I am trying to play! Isn’t that the hope of all violinists?

exactly

Nice to meet You, BCShalom!

nice to meet you and sorry about your violin. I have to remind my daughter not to lay her violin around so her father would not kick/step/sit on it.
