Woops, forgot to mention. I played my violins and viola today.

I couldn’t fo my cello. My older daughter put in request for a couple sympathy cards to have on hand, so I made her a couple and then made a couple to have on hand for myself. I also looked through my supplies to see what I have for a couple mermaid cards for my little girls. They requested mermaid cards when we visited them a little over a week ago. So, I ordered what I needed to stamp some mermaids to color and the die to cut them. Now, I have to decide on a design for the card. I have some ideas and will work on deciding in a final design over the next couple days. Therefore, it will be cello or viola or violin for the next few days, not all three. I have to finish a sweater sleeve, also, but that won’t take but 45 minutes to an hour, only about 15 minutes if I knew what I was doing! LOL Time will come when I will be that fast. So many things to get caught up with after the down time.

@JohnG Did the Holstein Freedom chinrest surprise you as much as it did me as to how comfortable it is? I am still amazed and so happy I tried it. I love it.

Ms Blog,

Yesterday I practiced my violin. I did Fiddlerman’s D string exercises. I am still finding those exercises to be great, and this string, for some reason, extremely challenging. I can’t seem to memorize it so that it is more fluent. I have no idea why.

I also used my instrument with the Holstein Freedom chinrest. I had purchased it earlier for my viola and love it. I find that I am also loving it on my violin. 👍

I am hoping to get back to my instruments later today.

Ms Blog,

I have been a little slacked the last couple days, but I almost have the mermaid project figured out, and I almost have the sweater done. I have to try the mermaid project in scrap cardstock. If it works, I need to do two with good cardstock. The sweater is almost done. I need to do the neck and collar for the sweater and stitch it all together. I think that they are the last of the really need to get done things I need to do.

I did, however, play my cello briefly yesterday.

It has been hard getting back into the swing of things, but I did manage to get a violin off the rack yesterday afternoon and this morning and play a few songs. I really have more trouble with the violin than the viola and cello. Cello is, by far, what I am suited best for, followed by the viola.

Last night I was able to play the two sings I am working on and then play around.

I just do not seem to get a grip, not talking about a physical grip, with the violin. My bow, although rosined well with a tried and true rosin, slides all over now. The strings are clean. I am thinking the strings need changing. They felt a little slippery. Maybe they are not allowing the bow hairs to grip, even with the rosin. That is all I can think of. I will try changing them out in a couple of days.

All cards are done, for now, I do have some to make in a week or two, but time should not have to be taken away from playing.

Today was a violin and cello day.

I spent the violin time with my bowing and fingering accuracy. The cello was for, fun, but paying kore attention than normal. I am also working on bowing with my cello.

I think my violin bowing was improved by the end. I did switch bows out and found one that I am more comfortable with. It made a big difference.

Ms Blog,

Sorry to have been absent or little show-up times of late.

I did play my cello, viola and violin yesterday, for a little while.

My cello went well this morning. I got a pretty good sound from him this morning. Paying attention to my bowing and bow arm more really seems to be helping. I will continue with slow and working in the pieces I am now working on.

I can’t wait until I can bring Ol’ Michael G in for a checkup and make sure bridge is where it should be, most likely is. I am still thinking about a magnetic wolf tone eliminator to replace the one on the string.

I am also going to have them put a new set of Evah Pirazzi green label strings on. Michael G seems to really like the green label Evah strings. I might as well keep my set and let them put on the new set. This way I will just keep my set as a spare. I was going to change them, but if it will be getting a check up soon, might as well let them do it.

Things to look forward to, new strings and a check up for Michael G.

Bummer, I tried to do my cello this morning. My bowing arm is stiff, therefor, it was a no go. Maybe, tomorrow.

Was able to play a few runs through with my cello pieces the other day. I paid close attention to the bow arm joints and intonation. I tried to play them all slower than normal. It is actually hard to do that. I also played a little on my viola and violin.

I am back, again. I did my viola, cello and violin today. If Monday is good weather, I plan to go outside onto my front porch with either my viola or violin and do the 3pm TAPs. I was practicing on all 3  instruments, and I also did the pieces I am using to learn with,

Congrats on practicing all three instruments! I'm going to try to do the 3:00pm Taps, too. I think you should use the viola (not that I'm biased or anything! lol). I just hope it isn't too windy

@JohnG

I am leaning towards the viola. I like the mellow sound it gives. I have tried it with different strings, making it higher notes and lower level notes. I might run through twice, first high register nites, then the lower register. I like the mellow somber tone the lower register notes give it. So starting on the G string will be the last time through.

I only found the sheet music for cello and violin and just use the same fingering for the viola as I do for the cello. I wish I knew of some little ditty that is along the same theme, that is easy, I could play between the tao renditions. I can't have my husband film it or I won't be able to play it. I would have loved to be able to share it, but I just can't do it while recording.

Today I played all my instruments to decide what to do for Taps Across America. I played my American Folk Fiddle that my step-grandfather made, and my cello.

This was a lot of fun, and a lot of practicing. I was practicing for the last few days.

Here is a link to where the topic is in the Share a Video section of the forum. I posted my videos there.

@Mouse - Although the violin was really good, I felt the cello version was superb!

Oh, the link was not missing. I had to go to the page and get it. Then I came back and edited my post to add it. I usually get a link before I do a post, but wasn't planning on doing it this time. I thought you were going to visit my blog, and tried to be quick. LOL

Yes, I absolutely love my cello. I was kind of worried to bring it outside. Thank you for your comments. I am more comfortable playing my cello, but I can take the violin and viola outside, or into another room.

The cello is much more comfortable for me to play. I think the arm positions work better for me. That cello has an absolutely wonderful sound. It sounds much better with good strings, but, I can't see changing them, and then bringing it in for a check up. It absolutely loves the Green Label Evah Pirazzi strings. I never noticed an instrument be affected by strings quite so noticeably, but it loves these. I don't know if it is this set and it won't be as nice a sound with a new set, or what. You know, like a NASCAR car that is set up prefect having to get tires changed. Change nothing but the tires, but it could change things with the different tires.

Next yer I might use my electric cello and its amp. LOL It does not sound as nice, though.

Today, I brought my cello in for a checkup. I will get it back next Tues.

While there I traded in a violin for a different one. This one is mellower and darker, but clear. I also brought a bow home to test.

I played violin for about 4 hours from 10am - 10:30pm. I am working hard to have my fingers learn where the notes are on the fingerboard more consistently. I don't know why I cannot be consistent.
