Bummer, I feel I am catching a cold. No surprise with the constant change in weather, and now damp and wet.

I was going to get groceries this morning, oh well. I was going to go to Michaels while my husband was in Harbor Freight this afternoon. A more sad, "Oh well", that shows where my priorities are! 😂

ha..yall sound like us this saturday i think.  its raining this weekend ..supposedly.. with that..there was some getting ready for spring stuff we need to do in the yard that may get postponed for naps.. and more productive stuff..like the groceries.

the book looks good.   I know tbe Aran Boat Song and Southwind will sound really good on cello.   Especially Aran boat song.  To me it has a dark kind of feel to it that I think the cellos low register will really bring out.   kind of a mournful type tune.  southwind is more hopeful sounding tune to me.  think youll like those both.    looking forward to what you find for yourself when you get it!

Thanks for the info on Aran Boat Song. I think I have done Southwind in my violin. I can't remember the title exactly, but it sounds familiar. I have never heard of Aran Boat Song.

In the sample pages, there seemed to be quite a few in my range for all three instruments.

That looks a great book. My friends little girl who is only 7 has just started playing cello at school, she had a great photo of her trekking along with it on her back. It looked like a cello case with legs, you couldn't see her;)

@stringy

That must have been so cute to see! Good for her.

Tell her not to give up because it will be soooo worth it later. I wishI could have started as a kid. Lovely sounds can come from a cello. Tell her someone across the pond is so proud of her!

So, we want to send a little something to my former cello instructor. Doing last semester at college, before student teaching. I decided to make a card to send it with.

I saw the "You're looking sharp" (at bottom, by cello) stamp when looking for a general plain vanilla inside sentiment. Ah, he had to point out me being sharp a bit! So, I added it.

He is a great teacher, and a "WOW" cellist.

I found a plain vanilla sentiment for the inside. It actually came with a set of holiday stamps.

The cello cardstock is as close as I could get to the color the luthier who made the cello my former instructor plays is known for using. I tried to match that cello as close as possible.

Also, I am supposed to receive my Easy Celtic Pieces for String Trio today! I cannot wait to see how it actually is.

My book arrived! Looks doable. I have to rigure out if it will be better to learn the cello part, thennlisten to the cello part and play viola part, and then add the violin or the other way. The cello parts are the boring half or quarter notes, thatboften repeat. Basically, background. I was thinking learn that first and get it redorded at a steady soeed that is doable for me. Then I can learn the others, and then play them along with listening to the cello and match it up.

Yes, I know that is not the way you all with all this recording savvy would do it. I am not into recording myself, and am not interested in learning all that recording mumbo jumbo. 😂 That said, I am so impressed with what I have seen and heard here on the forum, and love watching and listening, just not what I want to do. Maybe later, I might play with it, who knows.

I just did a quick go through sight reading the songs in the new book, using my violin.

Here is a listing of the songs

1. Arran Boat Song

2. Irish Washerwoman

3. My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean

4. Rakes of Mallow

5. Sally Garden

6. Scotland the Brave

7. Southwind Waltz

8. Sweet Jenny Jones

Ok, I can play Irish Washerwoman, but not as fast as I know it is to be done, yet! This is one of the few songs that I used to be able to play at speed on the piano. There are too many runs for me on the last measures, 10-17. I want to do it justice, so I will hold off because I think with these songs and the book recommended by SharonC, I might be able to get there.

Scotland the Brave has the same issue as The Irish Washerwoman, plus, I do not know this song. I could not get the rhythm correct, either. This will wait.

I play a different version of Southwind on my violin already. I like my version. So, I will leave this alone.

Sweet Jenny Jones is what I will work on. I find it will be good to get more comfortable with bowing, I think that once I can smooth this out, I can really get into learning some bowing and becoming more comfortable with bowing. I like the tune. The viola part will also be adding to what I learn, and push me a little, but not too much. Baby steps. The cello part is doable, and does not look boring, granted not all the melody like the violin and viola, but enough string changes to keep it interesting.

I suspect that Sweet Jenny Jones is to be played faster than I intend, but in my mind, it should be slow, so slowing it down will not sound weird to me. Which means that I will not push myself faster than I am ready.

How is that for reasoning and thinking it through?

Did a little recording of my cello and violin session today. I worked on the  Bach piece, but added Musette from English Suite 3 - Bach - Suzuki book 2. I am only doing the first part right now. I also worked in the cello and violin parts for Sweet Jenny Jones. I need to  find a way to make a click track like @Fiddlerman makes. that starts before the song to bring me in, too. I have not done rhe viola part, so I don't know if this is too fast.

The recordings are as follows,

1st is Cello Musette from English Suite 3 - Bach - Suzuki book 2

2nd is Cello Sweet Jenny Jones

3rd is the violin Sweet Jenny Jones on my American Folk Fiddle made by my grandfather Parker

4th is Sweet Jenny Brown on my Sullivan (I think - I forgot to label it). I am posting them in separate replies.

I do notice some problem fingering, mostly cello, flat notes. I need to work on finger placement for those.

Thanks Grandpafiddle and ABitRusty.

I really like the sound of my grandfather's fiddle. It is the one I wrote the article about.

I am really loving Sweet Jenny Jones. My sister-in-law, I sent her the sound video, loves it too.

I googled and found it done slow, medium, with a dance, small harp, etc. Love it. Here are three.

Harp - Reminds me of a music bix, of which I have plenty.

Accordion

Dance with sticks - Now, I was waiting for someone to smash someone's fingers with the sticks, I know I would. What they do changes, so watch the entire video. Part way through, I noticed there was a group ahead of them doing the same Sweet Jenny Jones dance.

It is always so neat how the speed, instrument used, etc all change the character of a piece.
