no.. its

https://www.melbay.com/Product.....-bach.aspx

BUT... I dont know how it lines up with traditional classical arrangements of bach pieces for violin.  This is some Bach melodies arranged for a 1st position violin student.  still a good book.

This one (Easy Classical Violin Solos--Javier Marco) has nice, short, straightforward arrangements (no more than 2sharps/2flats).  Can't show the music, but I've included the table of contents.

EasyClassicMarco.jpgImage EnlargerEasyClassical-TOC.jpgImage Enlarger

As far as an individual piece, there's the Kuchler Concertino Op. 11.  In particular, the 2nd movement is very approachable, but the 1st & 3rd are good, too.

KuchlerOp11.jpg

I'm including this video of 2nd movement because you can actually see the sheet music he's playing so you can see/hear if it's what you're looking for:  Notice-- 2nd movement has no sharps or flats!  Bonus!smile (1st & 3rd movements are in G with 1).

@Fiddlerman Well, I did something that I have not done is a long time. I was changing out my violin steings and popped my bridge. When I pop a bridge, I know how to do it!

That sucker flew across the living room! Not only that, I broke a leg on the bridge! I had a replacement. Not a Fiddlerman one, but I placed them back to back, everything matched, even the string slots.

I think Lord Wilton was sending me a message! 😂😂😂

Do you have any of the books in Barbara Barber's Solos for Young Violinists series? It's a 6-book compilation in graded order from beginner to upper-intermediate. It's not all classical, but it's mostly classical from about halfway through Book 1 onward. I'd suggest getting the first two or three books in the series so you have both pieces you can play now and a progression of pieces for the future.

Thanks, @AndrewH Definitely look in to those, too. They don't necessarily have to be classical. But, with the Fiddle pieces, I tend to want to bounce my knee, and play however I want to. I have no idea why. So, maybe I need -ie es that require structured playing and cause je to not get "into it" quite so much.

In line with my post #567, I have never popped my cello bridge. I hope I never do. I think that would be a little harder for me to replace,

I am not sure I put the bridge I put on my Lord Wilton violin in the exact right place. There were marks on the violin, but I am not positive. I will see later today when I try it.

@ABitRusty @SharonC @AndrewH (I think I have everyone)

Thanks for all of your recommendations. It is nice to have them here in my blog so that I can easily refer back to them as needed.

I did order this one, Mel Bay Solo Pieces for the Beginning Violinist Paperback - April 1, 1993 by Craig Duncan. I received it yesterday. It is actually two books. The main book had the violin part, and the piano part. Inside that was a thinner book with violin part only, which allowed for larger print, nice!

I did SIGHT READING! Intonation was off by quite a bit, but I think I actually did a good job. I do not know most of these pieces. I recognized the names, but never saw the sheet music, except for two, and they were a different arrangement.

I do think, that for now, doing these pieces will keep me more structured and not freelancing, 😂. I ended with my "freelancing"!

Thank you all so much. I really appreciate the assistance.

@Mouse  This is often the case with violin music with piano accompaniment (or music with multiple parts).  Piano will be the bound part of the book (pianist will use this at the piano).  This part will have a smaller violin line that is a guide for the pianist.

The violinist's part is unbound so that he/she can look at it while the pianist has the main book.

The parts are separate so each musician has their own part as they play together.

BTW, this often a problem when you try to buy a used piece of music (on Amazon, or other); used booksellers don't know that the book is not "complete" if these removable parts are missing.

Often, a removable part (e.g., violin) is taken out the book, and never put back in.  Yet, the violin part shows in the piano part, so the non-musician used bookseller will think (and sometime insist--yes, I've dealt with this) that the book is complete because the binding is not compromised, and all the instruments are showing in the music.

Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.

Sorry to hear that this happened, but happy that you were able to resolve the issue.

As for the replacement, it's fantastic that they matched. I guess this is a reminder to make sure that the bridge is not leaning forward. If you check that regularly this should never happen again.

I don't know how many times we've seen warped bridges with instruments coming into the shop leaning forward so much....

Congrats on your accomplishment and knowledge. banana

Thanks. Years ago that would have sent me into a panic. 😂 I had one that did not match up. It was only off by a tiny fraction, do I didn't want to use it. I could not believe the other one I,found matched up. I kept checking and rechecking, and sure enough. 😂 After the strings settle it, I will be able to tell if it is exactly matched. If it just does not sound exactly right, and the strings are settle, I will have to find someone around here who can redo it. Might have to go to Rochester, 1.5 hrs away. but that is okay. It is still sounding right, but the string are not staying tuned yet.

Okay, so I picked a piece in my Mel Bay Solo Pieces for the Beginning Violinist Paperback - April 1, 1993 by Craig Duncan.

It is, Caprice from Alceste, C.W. Von Gluck. It is Andante, I can handle that 😂, and 3/4 - so a time signature I don't often play.

Long bows, slurs, all things I need to work on, Being an Andante, it allows me to not make myself rush because I am not seeing a lot of black all over the sheet music (we know what that does to me - EEK, PANIC!).

This is extremely pretty.

I have decided to use my grandfather's fiddle. It gives it a nice sweet sound.

I did some work on the Caprice from Alceste this evening. I really like it. There is ine section that I always mess up. I will get it though. It is similar to another part and I always go to the wrong note after that specific measure, and not the one that follows that measure the second time. It will get better. I have not been working on it for long. One of these days the playing that over and over adding measures will kick in. Takes a little while.

Worked on the Caprice from Alceste by CW Von Gluck. I used my Fiddlershop Lord Wilton. I think I replaced the bridge ok. We can blame any miscues on the fact that Imhad to replace the bridge. See above posts if you are interested in mishap.

Anyway, I plan to use my Parker, the one my grandfather made, for this. The A string is quite harsh on it. I have new strings coming that I think will tone down the sharpness or brightness across the board on it, so rather than make everyone's ears ring forever, I am posting the Lord Wilton version. I like the sound. The Parker is lighter and sweeter, for lack of a better term, not as much projection, so i wanted to give it a try with this piece. When I get the new strings, I will give it a go. I just don't use the Parker as much for serious playing and this tune fits it. So when I get the strings, I will switch violins. I usually play the Lord Wilton.

im not familiar with that but i like the melody.  I know ypu kind of visualize what you hear when you listen to tunes.  my image from this was a white church on a Sunday morning in the country.  Its kind of set back on a small hill tucked back in the trees..  This is a hymn that the congregation is singing.  The leaves are changing but its a sunny morning and not cold yet..but past the humidity and heat of summer.

great job!   liked that!

Thank you very much, @ABitRusty I like your visualization!

It is  work in progress. There is a lot of room to work on bowing, accuracy, tempo, and loud and soft with this. Fun to do with a melody you like. It is from the Mel Bay book of Violin Solos I bought by Duncan.

@Mark Thank you. Just a tune from the Violin Solos book I just got. It has classical and other little ditties. Alceste which the Caprice is from is an opera. I googled it. I doubt it is very well known.

Von Gluck is from the Classical period, though.

I still love those Dominant Pro strings in my cello. They are simply amazing! If they were not so pricy, I would try them on my viola, but then again, the viola strings are less money, Hmmmmm.

I need to play a little more in my viola, seriously. I have been having too much fun on my violin, but I can just play those same songs on my violin easy enough. I think they would sound great on the mellower viola, actually. Hm. Maybe this week I will do that.

I have a replacement circular knitting needle tip supposed to arrive today, the other arrived cracked, so I will be finishing a doll sweater this weekend. I also have some yarn arriving, so I will be swatching and getting a gauge for them, number of stitches per 4 inches and number of rows per 4 inches, so I can build a sweater pattern, or whatever I use it for. So, I do not see serious playing time, I said, serious, I will definitely get them down and play already known pieces.

That said, I do want to give my cello a go. I miss it so. With my knitting machine sitting where I did my cello, it is a challenge to make room. But, I am thinking, I did more cleaning out of the other room for storing my sewing and knitting. It has shelves and a couple garage low profile too carts. They are great for jn the house storage, but the way. I have nice looking red ones, my favorite color. Okay, the floor area is empty. I was thinking of getting another music stand, another chair, and moving the cello in there. That would be cool. A place of its own.

I need to rearrange a couple of shelving locations so they will not be near my cello. That should be easy enough. I don't want things falling on it. I am good at having things fall when I am searching. The violin and viola are just fine in the livingroom. But, I can always carry them in to, what will be, the cello room if I want. I have just been playing them behind the knitting machine, pretty much where I was playing them all along. The cello is just too big for that space, now.

I cannot make it just a cello room because I need a place for my yarn, although I don't have tons like a lot of people with knitting machines, don't need that much. I buy what I want when I need it, and have scraps of skeins for practicing waste yarn and scrapping off yarn. Also have my material in there, and then the tools and accessories for both sewing and knitting. So, It can't be just a music room. But, it will be pretty darn close. This will be a project in the works. Kind of excited about giving my cello a room.

So, I purchased a new set of strings for my Parker violin, the one my grandfather made. The A and E sound harsh. The strings have been on it for a few years now. I received them yesterday.

I ordered a set that are on the warm side of the charts. I want to tone the brightness down on it. The problem is, it is sounding ok now. But, I am not sure if it is because I am hesitant to change them since my last string change, the Fiddlershop violin.

That bridge popped. It flew across the room. A leg broke off. The violin is on its way to Fiddlershop's ER room. I am afraid I will do it again! I have not done that in many years.

Yes, I know what you re supposed to do and all. I had a little distraction and just did not pay attention for a second. Pop, there it went.

So, now I have these strings I really want to try out on my Parker. I don't know if it is reluctance to change them making me not want to change them, or if it is sounding better, Not sure why it would. 🤯 I would make a audio and post it, but my house is a little noisy today.
