My Lord Wilton arrived at Fiddlershop for a tuneup, bridge, etc. As long as he is there, new strings! Like a full spa treatment.

I still have not mustered up the courage to put the Larsen Tzigane strings on my Parker. I keep telling myself he is sounding better. No doubt, they would tone down the shrill from the old strings, but I do not want to pop a bridge again!

I know, the Lord Wilton bridge pop was the first time Imhad done it in years, and it was due to a second of not paying attention, but I am a little bridge shy right now!

I cannot wait to hear how my Lord Wilton will sound when he gets back from his "spa" treatment at Fiddlershop.

Well, today Imdid some work on my caprice, Caprice from Alceste, C.W. Von Gluck. It is coming along.

In remembering @SharonC's sight reading topic post a while back, I think it was SharonC that started mentioning it not too long ago, I also did some more sight reading! She inspired me. It is actually quite fun.

So, I tried a couple other pieces from the same book the caprice is from. They are different from the caprice. One was Minuet by George Philipp Telemann. The second one was Gavotte by Arcangelo Corelli. One is 3/4, the other is 4/4. They were fun.

I went beyond the sight read. From the way the discussion went, the times after the first time were not sight reading because you have tried it, notice that I did not say I played them, 😂. But, I really do not know how they are supposed to sound, rhythm, etc. I have not looked for a version online, and do not plan to, so please do not post one for me. Since, I still have no idea how they are supposed to sound, I consider it semi-sight reading. I want to see if I can figure the timing out on my own by seeing the notes, and counting beats.

I cannot wait until my Lord Wilton is finished with his "spa" vacation.

I always find it magical reading some music and transferring it onto the fiddle to make sounds, its like a secret language, a mark on paper  means a sound. My missus watches and is baffled when I start learning something just by putting the music on a stand and reading it. I remember I was having central heating put in a house and the plumber said he thought it was the greatest thing possible being able to read music, I tried to explain to him it depends how difficult the music is but he couldnt get it.

Glad you are enjoying it so much , is the book baroque pieces 2 by any chance?

@stringy It is this book, Mel Bay Solo Pieces for the Beginning Violinist Paperback - April 1, 1993 by Craig Duncan.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. It was interesting reading your thoughts.

Well, Lord Wilton is on his way home. Cool. I hope he appreciated his spa treatment and will stop with the sour notes when he gets back home.

Lord Wilton is moving along on his way home. I cannot wait to get him back with his new strings, bridge and soundpost.

They installed Larson Tzigane strings on him. I bought a set of these for my Parker Fiddle but after the bridge mishap with Lord Wilton, I have been a bit bridge shy to change them out!

I have done it many many times without issue, I just got distracted when doing the Lord Wilton, POP! But, I am now telling myself the strings on the Parker fiddle are fine. Maybe after I hear and play these strings on Lord Wilton, I will get the desire and urge to install the set I purchased for my Parker Fiddle onto the Parker.

Tracking Lord Wilton. He is getting closer. I cannot wait to hear how he sounds after his much needed spa treatment.

He will be sorely disappointed with my playing ability, or lack thereof, after the violinist at Fiddlershop tested him out with string sets.

LORD WILTON IS BACK HOME!

Yes, my beloved Lord Wilton is back, all shiny, new bridge and new sound post, and new Larson Tzigane strings.

I like the strings. They are still settling in, so even with my bad playing, I could tell when they needed retuning, but that is okay.

I was hoping that I would not have to add my tapes, but I do. Please do not comment about that. Not everyone can play without them and it is fine to use them. Negative comments about them are really demeaning to those of us using them. Here, in my little cubby hole, I do use them with pride. I just did not want to have to bother.

I have finished playing it for the day and letting the strings rest.

Thanks, @Mark and @ABitRusty. I was not aware anyone here on the forum ever used these strings. They were in the area on the Fiddlershop chart I was interested in, so I thought I would give them a shot. They are louder or have have more projection than whatever I had before. I live, somewhat, in the country, so not a problem, 😂.

I have a set that I ordered for the fiddle my grandfather made, Parker, but, they arrived right after I pooped  Lord Wilton's bridge. I want to get a little of the Parker violin sharpness down. That is when I did the checking out of them on Fiddlershop.

My problem is that I am a little "bridge" shy. Kind of reluctant to change them for fear of popping that Parker bridge. I know it happened on Lord Wilton because I got distracted for a a second, but didn't stop turning the peg, but replacing the Parker bridge will not be as easy. The violin shop that refurbished it to playing condition basically no longer exists.

The owners of that shop retired and sold it. Then the new owners moved a little further away. They seek more "businesslike", just based on their website, and I just cannot get myself to go those extra miles. So, I am very reluctant to change those strings, even though they do need changing.

I will get the Lord Wilton down later today and see how well it held its tune overnight. Fingers crossed. I can't put the strips on until the strings settle, and I really need them.

Maybe I will change the Parker Fiddle strings next week. Yeah, right! I do think they will be a good fit on my Parker Fiddle.

I did my Lord Wilton this morning. I really need the tapes. The strungs just needed a slight tuning so I will wait to add the tapes. I think I can get away with just the first finger so that I know where "home" is. I can never tell where to start the fingers. If I need more help, I will add the tape for third finger.

I followed it up with my cello. Man, I love those Dominant Pro strings on that Fiddlerahop cello. Wow! They still hold their tune well, too. I had Dominant Pro in a violin a while back and could not stand them, but on this cello, they are simply lovely. They are also easy to finger.

I have not played the Lord Wilton with the Tzigane strings enough to have much opinion, but so far, I do like them.

I did a little more with Lord Wilton today. I definitely like the strings. They sound great on this violin and feel great when fingering them on the fingerboard.

I will have to, at least add the first finger, first position strip on it. If I need it later, I will add the third finger. I just cannot keep from getting lost.

The strings seem to have settled, so yesterday afternoon I did add the first finger tapes. I think I will need the third finger first position tapes, but I will wait on that.

I really like the strings.

I have been working on the Group Project. I know the final sheets have not been posted, but they won't be too different and there is a part that is different from my CD versions and I have to work on that. I keep wanting to do the CD version. IT will get there. It is still early.

I have also been working on that Minuet I started a while ago.

I am trying to get my bowing better on my violin. I really need it a lot better, just to be mediocre at it. YouTubes do NOT help.

I do worse when recording myself. Mirrors, I tried that. It is backwards and confused the heck out of me.

I am trying to bow long slow bows and paying attention, just open strings. Trying to finger in the right place AND bow properly, not going to work. One thing at a time. Not sure what happened. I used to be able to. I think my old joints re moving differently and I have to adjust. Change does not come easy.

I am thinking that I will change the strings on my Parker Fiddle tomorrow. I have become " bridge" shy, but I must move on, yes, I must, mustn't I?

I haven't able to do anything with the violin this week, yet.

I got two vaccinations in my arm and it is still really sore. I am hoping it will lessen tomorrow. No violin or cello, or machine knitting. I am so bored! It is really sore, even when not touched or moving the arm.
