btw - Your post rolled onto a new page without any problems, it would seem. Unlike the one that SharonC reported on the Simple Gifts Party thread.

Yep. That happened with Elcbk a month or so ago, too. I have a theory, but not sure. I notified Fiddlerman that it happened again. I have to look back and see if the particular posts both fit my theory. I am not that techy, but I think I might be on to something, if they are both similar, other than a new page.

Ma Blog,

I played my cello this morning the lessons discussed earlier. I am really enjoying, and so,gar, benefitting from the Cassia Harvey book. My first 4 pages of the 4th position were much better today. I will stick with these for a while. I do have a harder time with the G and C strings. No sur-rise, I have more of an issue with the bowing on those strings, too.

I have added some shifting to my "You'll Never Walk Alone" that I am working on. I would not have felt comfortable doing that if it had not been for the Cassia Harvey Book, I think.

Ms Blog

I am still using Cassia Harvey's 4th position book and finding it extremely helpful. I am doing the same pages as I was doing. I am also doing the same songs as mentioned earlier. This is helping me loosen up on the fingerboard - making it easier to shift, improved my intonation.

Ms Blog,
Well, yesterday I did not play much. I did my viola a little to give the chinrest another go.

Ms Blog

Yesterday, I received two books I ordered. Both are by Cassia Harvey. Her 4th position is mentioned in the Index, in the Books Section.

I received the Fourth Position Study Method For cello, and the Third Position For Cello books by Cassia Harvey, yesterday. Today, I received the Third Position Study Method for Cello.

After I have used them, I will write more about them. However, in browsing the 4th position study method, my initial thoughts are that this book is going to be extremely helpful. It explains how to do the fingering in fourth position in more detail, and there are more pieces that use fourth position to use these practices in. There is an explanation and diagram as to where to actually bow in relation to where you are on the fingerboard.

The Third Position for the Cello is similar to the fourth position for cello book, which I really like, as is the Study Method for third position.

Ms Blog,

this morning I practiced my cello. I am using the two Cassia Harvey books I have for fourth position. I love them. I have the same set of books for third position.

After practicing the cello, I played the cello. I changed some fingering in songs I play to use some 4th positions and eliminate a couple open strings where I wanted to add vibrato.

I then played my violas and violins.

Fun day.

Ms Blog

I did my cello this morning using my 4th position books. I am still very much pleased with the lessons and format of these books. It is quite fun and fulfilling to learn the 4th position in a way that is not daunting.

Ms Blog

This morning I continued with the Cassia Harvey Fourth Position books. I can really feel that they are helping.

I searched and found she makes these for viola, and I think violin, also. In a few weeks, I will get third position for viola.

Ms Blog,

I have had a very sore right shoulder/upper area the last few days. I tried playing just bow, but I can't do the bowing. I did, however, practice the shifting without bowing for a while.

Maybe, it will be better in a few days. I will have to take it easy and let it rest for a few days. Bummer.

If I make a card, I will have to use my electric Gemini so I don't have to hand crank. I will have to remember to do that because the hand cranked Spellbinder is easier to feed the paper and dies through, plus, I like cranking it. I am glad I got the two cards for my grandkiddies done and mailed before the upper arm/shoulder got sore.

Maybe, I will just do the left hand shifting movements again later today.

Ms BlogPlayed my cello this morning. It was fun and the Cassia books are still helping. I am also working on "You'll Never Walk Alone". I have added shifting in spots, thanks to Cassia's books, that were not in the notation of the song. It is all done in first position in the book.

Ms Blog,

This morning was a good morning. I worked on my cello with the Cassia Harvey books. I am still liking them, and find them very beneficial. I have issues shifting on the C and G strings. The D is harder than the A, but more doable. I wonder if that is the same with other bowed string instrument players. I think I will ask JohnG and Stringy.

@JohnG and @stringy Do you find it harder to shift 4th position on your instruments on your C and G strings on viola or G and D strings on violin? Please read the above paragraph for as to why I ask. Thank you.

I will not continue with my entry while await an answer from JohnG and Stringy.

This morning, after I finished with my cello, I did my violas. I am still loving my new Fiddlerman Shoulder rest on them both.

Holstein Freedom Chinrest

It is in the violin chinrest section, but I ordered the viola barrel for them. I find the sound is not muffled, as well as it being surprisingly very comfortable. I love it. I will probably order two for my violins, later.

I wanted to play longer, but my arms got sore ☹️. Tomorrow is another day.

Chow!

If you are questioning it or confused because I was going to ask JohnG or stringy, it is because I am not shifting on my violin or viola. I was curious if they are finding different strings are harder to shift on on their instruments.

Are you "unconfused", yet? If not, I am afraid I am still confused by your confusion.

I live in and am President of the State of Confusion. I have said that about my entire adult life. Nobody has ever questioned that fact. 🤪😜🥴

Since I don't shift positions (other than standing up or sitting down lol), I can't answer your question!

Ms Blog

Yesterday evening I just could not concentrate on my session. I did do it, but I cut it short.

I doubt I will get any playing time in today. Both shoulders are sore. I am thinking they may have been stiff yesterday evening when I had such a hard time concentrating.

Maybe tomorrow I will be able to do some more playing.

That said, I am feeling pretty good about my playing.
