6/8 with hard swing and lilt measures

not a fan of that video for itm at all.   guess i dont get what is going on with it

If it would cull the blue beater then yeah..it would work for me.  there is a reference to keep time, but it doeant look you in to any particular rhythm so the groove can be what it is.   and change if wanted..even in the middle of a tune.   but that video is not a good one to play to in my opinion.. as far as irish stuff.

here is a idea..or feeling... everybodies playing is "groovey" to someone.  thoughts?

I do believe 'GROOVE' is based upon individual interpretation AND tradition.

Can someone who plays 'straight' convince anyone it's a 'groove'?  ...PROBABLY (some pogo-stick-bouncing polkas come to mind).

BUT, I'd much rather learn to play like THIS...

Celtic Groove!  ...GO Darol, Casey & Hanneke!!!

Loads of fun seeing/listening to Atlanta Celli's 'Raspberry Bourée' (SharonC's Blog, post #57)!  Really nice arrangement/mash-up of 'Bach's Bourée' & Prince's 'Raspberry Beret' - it's Prince getting the Bach treatment.  I secretly wished they'd devoted a couple minutes to play some equally funk'd out Bach - but my-OH-my, I'm getting so greedy in my old age!

Reminded me of Jethro Tull's Bourée, but he ONLY funk'd out the Baroque - no comparison.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra - 'Bach To Funk'.  This started out with a funky bass rhythm against the baroque melody.  Then it evolved throughout - ending completely switched around, with the bass rhythm sounding baroque & the melody funk'd!

How Everyone can play the Funk (beginner to PRO).  On guitar, but I still see possibilities for applying to playing the fiddle.  Helped me get a better understanding, more than when I just play-along.

Guess I'm going to have to pay more attention to 'wah-wah pedal' effects & practice more 'strum bowing'!

Subdivisions - I know certain subdivisions are expected within each time signature - some aren't & I think I've forgotten the 'rules'!  Easy to do when most of the time I'm listening to melody, playing melodies. 😒

Anyway, have touched on ways tempo can change, but I'm still fascinated when tempo FEELS like it changes... but DOESN'T!

How To Compose a Rhythmic Paradox - from Galen DeGraf.  If I hadn't seen this, I would've sworn the tempo was actually changing... yep, STILL can't completely trust my ears!

Kinda makes me wish I'd played an instrument in High School Band now. 🙄

It's messing with TUPLETS

"any rhythm that involves dividing the beat into a different number of equal subdivisions from that usually permitted by the time-signature (e.g., triplets, duplets, etc.)"

Music's Most Addictive Rhythm! (Synthet)

Started exploring all this more, because I'd like to be able to learn to play Beat DROP Music - WITH the fiddle!

Can't 'uneveness' in music also apply to tone/texture/dynamics, even pitch?

I like contrast... but NOT in a balanced way.

Music that allows contrasting types of bow strokes is MUCH more appealing to me... but I don't want an equal amount of each.  Feeling seasick from a balanced rise & fall in pitch - anything that alternates in extremes isn't what I consider pleasant, either.

When I first learn something new (bowing techniques, right hand techniques, a tune) I expect to 'over-use' it - even when I started learning to play, it was only on the E & A strings, one or two keys, a slow tempo... but dang, I don't want to get stuck there.

My ears (and I) like SURPRISES... and I don't always want BIG ones - little ones are very nice!  Taken me a long time to get to where I can start to think how best, or best ways to approach this.

...just setting myself up for more experimenting, different perspectives helps.

Every Trick to EAR CANDY

The CHALLENGE for me... how much can I do on the fiddle itself - acoustically vs with electronic effects.

While I'm thinking about tone & effects...

Širom - not my usual cup of tea, but fascinatingly creative.  I happened upon them the other day when I was looking at/listening to music from Slovenia.

Širom play vividly textured and mostly imagined folk music(s). Fusing handmade and global instruments with fearless sound exploration, the results are unbound by tradition or geography.
