Woo Hoo!I've been given an unopened fresh ootb HTC Desire 610 (a friend found one in the loft of a house he was prepping for the estate agent he works for). I put an EE SIM in today (those nanosims are fiddly little suckers) and phoned a friend so that the phone can convert itself to my old mobile number (good riddance, Tesco!).
Then I will get a holder and take it to our next gig and see if I can record us (it's less intrusive than a tablet)
Talking of our next gig, it's in 9 days' time, before the heatwave ends.
It's in our usual church, so it shouldn't be a scorcher, and I prepared for it by buying a couple of black long-sleeved T-shirts, but I wonder if I'll overheat in long sleeves (it's been 25 years since I last wore a shirt). I'll have to spray on extra anti-perspirant and hope for the best!
I had about £15 of credit on my Tesco payg Razr V3 and I assumed I'd lose it, but it seems as though incoming calls come via the EE network which directs to my smartphone, but I can still make outgoing calls on my razr on the Tesco network (when it's up), using the same number. It's probably a miracle there's no confusion!

Gig went OK, except that I was doing so well I got overconfident and lost a beat in a bar towards the end of the Schumann symphony and ruined a nice counterpoint between first and second violins until I reset myself.
Unfortunately, the church was warmer than I expected.
The double-phone usage was only temporary - when the full switch was made I lost the use of the Razr. Setting up a 14-year-old htc has been a bit of a nightmare - I had to create a manual APN to get it to work, which is something that should have been on the EE sim. And then Fiddlerman's certificate was unrecognised. I managed to export it from the website onto my PC and migrate it to the htc and install it without complaint after renaming it from fiddlerman.com to fiddlerman.crt, but I can't log on with it, and it has suddenly started complaining that the site is insecure again. And the only version of WhatsApp I've found so far has a date/time bug which won't let it run.

Hi, @Gordon Shumway. You might want to PM @Fiddlerman about this. I received your email, but, I don't have anything to do with that part of the forum. It might better if you PM'd Fiddlerman and explained the issue?

Will do, but Pierre once told me he responded more quickly to EMails than to PMs.

I think I have norovirus, so tomorrow's gig is off. I'm glad I was OK for Saturday's.
Monday night I was up all night, so I thought I was over it yesterday, but this morning after 3 hours' sleep I felt a bit dyspeptic, and a bowl of cornflakes has beaten me.

If you copy the address of the site, you'll notice that the site is encrypted by the https https://fiddlerman.com/
The phone cancels out the https if it doesn't like the certificate.
I'm trying to modify the phone remotely from my PC using Win File Manager, as the phone doesn't have its own file manager, but I just can't find the right downloads folder to put stuff in. It's probably best to buy a more recent refurbished Samsung.
Thanks, stringy. I'm off to bed now. I ate a third of a Waitrose pork pie tonight and hated it. Thank god for their fruity mango chutney!

I bought a phone mount for a music stand, and wanted to record one piece of the concert on Saturday, but recordings weren't allowed (maybe that's just the audience), so I should have recorded the rehearsal instead. But I shall use it with a vengeance in October. Maybe I'll have a better phone then too.

Summer time, so the problem of sweat has raised its ugly head.
I did have a gelpad stuck to the chinrest and some chamois stuck to the gelpad.
But gelpad adhesion is too aggressive for the purpose, imo, and all that is needed is friction, rather than adhesion.
I have chamois and synthetic chamois. My synthetic chamois - perhaps there are various different products - has a natural friction on one side only, curiously, whereas real chamois is smooth on both sides.
What I'm doing is cutting a triangle out of each with a hole in each apex for the end pin to go through. The rest then is sized to go over the chinrest. It doesn't have to be fitted - when you rest your cheek on it, friction holds it in place.
The chamois though needs a triangle of anti-slip drawer liner glued to it at each corner.
So I'm in the process of testing the chamois for it's stayputness, its absorbency and comfort having been tried and tested.
And I'm testing the synthetic chamois for friction and absorbency and so on, as, if it's just thin sponge, it will be too damp. (I've tried thin sponge wipes already - they quickly feel wet)
Pure wool felt would be worth trying if it is still available.
OK, I just tried the synthetic chamois in the sink. Forget it!
Apart from that I replaced my G and D strings yesterday with Vision Solos (they were Visions)

The piece of neoprene foam I adhered (self-adhesive) to my chinrest works great & can be cleaned with a wipe.
Yes, you can still buy pieces & sheets of different sizes/thicknesses of the REAL wool felt.
For a piece of chamois, or wool felt - I'd use a piece of self-stick velcro for on the chinrest, but stitch the other half to the material so it can be removed easily & washed.
I still might do this.
My biggest issue right now (with NO shoulder rest) is my 3 chinrest clamps on my 6-string are bulky with edges that can create sores on my bare skin - so an oversized piece of material to cover them AND my chinrest would be great. Even 6-8mm thick neoprene would be nice (probably my choice) - available by sheet or roll.

Yeah, I just ordered a piece - 50cm square x 1 mm for about 10usd
I've got some self-adhesive velcro but I'm not sure it will be less aggressive towards the chinrest than the gelpad was. I can only try it.
