Great job Katie! You are well on your way to great vibrato.

Not to be critical, but is there any way that you can record your videos in landscape mode (phone sideways?)  Sometimes it's difficult to see the entire view. Plus, we can't see your smiling face smile

You should be proud of your progress!

Have a great day.

Wow thanks Grandpafiddle !!! That’s a huge complement . I’m going to keep practicing it like this and try to keep being relaxed in mind. Yep will definitely record landscape I remember you saying it before !! You know what a whizz I am with the camera 🤣

@Katie L -

Excellent!

I would still use Vincent as an 'exercise', play EVERY note with vibrato - or use a piece you definitely need ALL 4 fingers.

It's NOT that you'd normally play it with vibrato on every note - just an exercise, using a piece you are familiar with... a little every day.

Thanks Emily will do. I want to really focus on the feeling of being relaxed . I know I can be lighter on the strings so need to keep that in mind . Hopefully I’ll still be able to do it tomorrow !! Thanks for watching

Bravo, definite progress, remember practice is not always pretty!!!

That's why it's call practice, your trying to prefect something, you haven't perfected it so you practice.

Keep up the good work.

Did a bit of practice earlier today to see if I could still do what I did yesterday. I can but definitely need to practice not tensing up . Also helping me to sneak in vibrato with a scale to trick myself ! Ha ha ! Also think not starting with vibrato is good because I do over think it and I get confused with where my thumb should be . All t least if I mix vibrato in , my thumb is in my natural playing position ! I kind of think I need to work on getting vibrato in there …. You will do vibrato Katie L !!!!

Hope everyone’s doing ok 👍 it’s been a while but I’m still here practicing .. while I’m not dealing with my allotment rat problem ! It’s been a bit full on. I don’t like rats I’ve even been dreaming about them ! Urgh anyway that’s getting sorted thanks to a brave Dan !

Anyway, I actually think I’m getting on ok violinning at the moment believe it or not ! No further lesson which is fine , I know what I have to do, it’s just doing it and I like doing stuff in my own time ! Been practicing everything and lots of vibrato even been doing a bit of yoga after practicing!

I think my vibrato is coming along, still obsessed but I’ve had a few realisations. Firstly I know which exercises help me most, sliding up and down the neck and landing in a vibrato   Sliding up and down the neck but not vibrating at all and ( I know Stringy has been telling me to go this) practicing without the thumb! I can only do this for a very short time but it’s helping with pressing too hard ! It kind of resets me ! I’m practicing with 3 fingers as well ( not up for fourth yet) also not practicing at all in third position, all in first which is a breakthrough ! I’ll eventually record ( in landscape ) and get some vibrato in hopefully and share 👍

Great to hear you are still at it, I was starting to think maybe you had stopped. To be honest I don’t spend as much time on here myself as I used to, a lot of my time is now taken up with tik tok and the leccy fiddle.

What happened with the lessons?

Looking forward to hearing your next vid. You were improving at a rapid rate.

@Katie L  Glad you're doing good and still coming along--finding what works best for you is the best way to go about your learning.

Oh, no Rats!   I had a cat that I let outside in the day time that would “guard” my garden—she’d sleep under the tomato plants, keeping the squirrels & chipmunks away.  Hope you and Dan can get them gone.

@Katie L -

Jeez, Katie - that's scary! 😳

Knock-on-wood, that's one critter I haven't seen around our place.  I understand how terribly stressful 'invaders' can be - hope you find where they are nesting & can be done with it.

Glad you are keeping up with the fiddling. 🤗

Ah thanks Sharon Emily Stringy Abitrusty and Unfretted !!! I’ll keep going !

ummm so Saturday I went up on my own, I did the banging on the shed ,no rats and to be honest I didn’t really go in but I did some compost heap sorting . And then Sunday we moved our rodent free compost heap to the other end of the plot because we think that’s what’s attracting the rats.

Dan was good, shovelled out the earth that had ended up in the shed from the burrowing and laid a stone floor ! We are going to get some expanding foam to fill in the holes in the shed . I think it will be ok ! 😁 hopefully moving the compost heap and the new floor will do it !

Here are some pics of my actual garden …IMG_0982.jpegImage EnlargerIMG_0935.jpegImage EnlargerIMG_0980.jpegImage EnlargerIMG_0985.jpegImage Enlarger

Best way to keep rats away for good, is if you know anyone who keep secrets, ask them for the straw wh they clean their cage, and spread a bit round your garden, you won't have anymore problem.
