And a little over an hour tonight, and once again, was only the etudes, Wayfaring Stranger, Ducks on the Mill Pond, Greensleeves, and Simple Gifts, and some Improv. including Amazing Grace without the sheet music, and a quick run through attempt on a transcription of And They Called the Wind Mariah.

Doing better at keeping up with the practicing, this was my 8th straight day of it!

Only half an hour tonight, 'cause it was late, but extremely productive. An extraordinary friend sent me a gift from FiddlerShop. The person wishes to remain anonymous, and I can only begin to thank them adequately.

Got this tube via FedEx today.

The first time I tried it, I hadn't used enough rosin, so it "skittered" a bit on the strings, but after applying some more, it was EXCELLENT! My practice ended up being just a little Amazing Grace with improvisation and Bridge Over Troubled Waters, and I was able to play them both from memory! A major feat for me.

Thanks to the donor who is remaining anonymous, I hope to make this a major step in my development.

@ELCBK and @Fiddlerman - Thank you. It feels and sounds so much better that I took the viola down and played some impromptu tunes and improv just before I went to bed last night and again, first thing this morning! dancing-irish-smiley

Got an hour and a half in today! Gotta make good use of the new bow! Lots of tunes again, Essential Elements Etude 119-124, Skills G Maj, D String Etudes, Ghost Riders in the Sky, Wayfaring Stranger, Green Sleeves, Ducks On Mill Pond, Slan Le Maigh, Fiddlers Green, Ashokan Farewell, Bridge Trouble Waters, Amazing Grace, Sound of Silence, Scarborough Fair, Blind Mary, Misty Mtn, Skye Boat Song, Danny Boy, Dawning of the Day, Song From a Secret Garden, Come Saturday Morning, Both Sides Now, Simple Gifts, and lots of Improv.

Loving the new bow and it really seems to help the tone, in addition to reducing scratching. Looking forward to when I get the nut and bridge trimmed down.

So, same repertoire as yesterday and another hour and a half. But I was having bow control problems today that caused scratchy notes (sliding bow sideways), plus had bow tightened too much for awhile, until I realized that was part of the problem. Guess I'm hoping the bow will overcome my technical issues! lol

Only half an hour tonight after a family afternoon and evening. Just the etudes, Amazing Grace with Improv, and Bridge Over Troubled Waters, plus more improvisation. Our daughter-in-law's brother was in from Seattle and we had a great afternoon get together along with four of our grandchildren, our son and daughter-in-law, her folks, and her brother. We went to a Malaysian restaurant (Penang, Arlington Heights, IL) for a great meal and then to our daughter-in-laws folks' for dessert.

Great day!

Normal to have issues. Just being aware of the issues will help you tame them. :)

Took a day off yesterday after some yard work "did me in". Got back in the swing of things today with an hour and forty minutes that kinda flew by! Same long repertoire that I've been working on but concentrated on a few of them more than usual. Had some minor problems with scratching to start off with, but a wipe down of bow hairs and bow tension adjustment seemed to help along with concentrating on bow movement a little more. Last half of session sounded fairly good!

@Fiddlerman - Guess I'll just have figure out how to get both halves like the last half! lol Thanks!

Only half an hour tonight and it was Amazing Grace and Bridge Over Troubled Waters from memory, and a lot of improvisation and attempting to remember and play other tunes by ear. Good bowing practice, which is what I was aiming for. The new bow has definitely helped!

An hour and ten minutes this afternoon. All the usual suspects, plus a quick run through of "Ode to Joy" from the Hal Leonard book, just for the fun of it! Tone seemed better today than yesterday, so hopefully getting my technique under control.
