An hour and ten minutes tonight. Added Man of Constant Sorrow to the ones played last night, but spent most (half?) on Wayfaring Stranger, I Saw Three Ships, and Amazing Grace. Got a couple of phrases in I Saw Three Ships that are giving me fits, but it's improving!

Only half an hour tonight, cleaned the bathroom, and put together a couple of Christmas cards in Corel Paintshop Pro, one religious and the other for the "Happy Holiday" crowd! Then it was game night on the Xbox playing Halo Infinite Multiplayer.

Played Man of Constant Sorrow, Nearer My God, Away in the Manger, Ode to Joy, Blackest Crow, Amazing Grace, Wayfaring Stranger, Simple Gifts, Greensleeves, and Improv.

All are coming along, but more practice would help!

@JohnG -

I have to admit I've never played anything on XBox, but Kevin goes nuts over the flight simulator and my Brother mentioned the new Halo - dropped as a Christmas hint. 🙄

Maybe it's not so new, just he doesn't have it, yet (?)

@ELCBK - Halo Infinite Multiplayer is available for free on Xbox, but Halo Infinite Campaign is coming out this Wednesday (I've already pre-ordered it). A grandson got me hooked on video games with Halo CE (Combat Evolved), 20 years ago and I've been playing it ever since.

@Mouse - Thanks, it varies a lot and I have a tendency to overdo new things, but that is where the fun is for me.

An hour and 10 minutes tonight, but totally different! After attending an Advent program consisting totally of kindergarden to 4th grade students at our grandkids church and school, our son and I played duets, but surprisingly he didn't know many of the tunes I (kinda) know. However, we did get through a few, including Ode to Joy, Scarborough Fair, Simple Gifts, William Tell Overture, Amazing Grace, King Wenceslas, Michael Row the Boat Ashore, and a few others.

The sound quality is terrible and the mic placement was way too close to the trombone, but these were the least bad! lol Amazing Grace and Simple Gifts.

@ELCBK - Thanks, and though I agree with the terms precious and lucky, I'm not sure my son nor I would agree with the "sounded wonderful". But thanks for the support.

That is probably great practice for your grandson for playing with someone else and memories in the making.

@Mouse - That's my son, and not my grandson (they show no interest), and I'm the one needing practice at duets. He was playing with no music and no great familiarity with most of the tunes.

Only about 45 actual practicing tonight on mostly Christmas tunes, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Holy Night, I Saw Three Ships, Away in a Manger, Greensleeves, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, Amazing Grace, and Wayfaring Stranger. More time was spent transposing down an octave all or parts of three tunes, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, O Little Town of Bethlehem, and O Holy Night. In addition, I made trombone/baritone versions of these in bass clef for my son.

Our son has decided we need to serenade the family at our Christmas party!

@Mark - I think it's pretty cool too, that our son is willing to play duets with me!

Tonight, was another Christmas tune, as most of the rest of the month will be. Same set as last night (It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Holy Night, I Saw Three Ships, Away in a Manger, Greensleeves, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, Amazing Grace, and Wayfaring Stranger) and earlier I was able to send our son three tunes, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Holy Night transcribed for trombone in both PDF and MP3 formats. I will still need to get the rest of them to him fairly quickly.

This really is turning out to be fun to do, and I think I'm learning a lot at the same time.

No practice today, spent the time getting four more tunes transcribed to bass clef and trombone, both PDF and mp3.

Away in a Manger, Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, Deck the Halls, and Greensleeves (What Child is This?).

@JohnG

I know I learned a lot by using Musescore.  Putting my hands on the notes enhanced my learning.  It not only improved my music reading, but allowed me to better understand other instrument parts, melody/harmony, etc.,   It’s been a great tool for me.

Only 45 minutes tonight, left it until too late and was feeling a little tired. Fast run-throughs of all 14 Christmas tunes, plus a little Amazing Grace and Wayfaring Stranger. Biggest problem was with Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire. A couple of others weren't very good, but that's what practice is for! Christmas party may come to nought as my brother-in-law has come down with Covid. Luckily, a family party last weekend was cancelled at the last moment, which would have had a large number of family members.

@JohnG -

Sorry to hear some of your Holiday plans are spoiled because of the 'C' word.

Mine, too - Daughter's whole Family (including all 7 Kids)... and this comes after Daughter just got over a horrid case of meningitis from this Summer!

https://www.clipartkey.com/mpngs/m/29-298393_christmas-angels-clipart-black-and-white-angel-announcing.png

Hope you still have more plans that aren't cancelled.

- Emily
