@Gordon Shumway - Thanks for those, and I don't consider that thread-drift so much as enhancements! Both you and @ELCBK have given me some good ideas on finding music I like!

Today was a GOOD day. Only 45 minutes, but very productive. I got in about 15 minutes on The Ashe Grove which I'm beginning to memorize and another 15 minutes on Blowin' in the Wind. Rest of the time was quick run throughs of Green Green Grass of Home, Oh Shenandoah, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Man of Constant Sorrow, House of the Rising Sun, Dark Island, and Wayfaring Stranger (with improv).

Even my wife was impressed with The Ash Grove and she can hear bad intonation with the best of them! lol

An interesting day with half an hour on the same tunes as yesterday, plus 15 minutes with Mel Bay's Complete Irish Fiddler Player. I've only transposed 4 of the exercises and Irish Washerwoman to alto clef. So, it will take some time before I complete this, to say nothing of mastering the exercises already transposed.

In the meantime, memorizing The Ash Grove is continuing well.

Had to put in another half hour this evening (my viola was calling to me) and played both The Ash Grove and Blowin' in the Wind. So, a total of an hour and 15 minutes for the day.

Feelin' Good Now (that should be a song! lol)

Put in 50 minutes tonight after planning on only about 20, since I had to fight traffic into and out of Chicago today. Total of about 2 1/2 hours! Played The Ash Grove, Blowin' in the Wind, Green Green Grass of Home, Oh Shenandoah, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Man of Constant Sorrow, House of the Rising Sun, Dark Island, and Wayfaring Stranger with improv.

Edited: Oh yeah, and I played Taps in preparation for possibly participating in the Taps Across America on Monday!

Once I got started, didn't want to stop. I guess that's a good thing!

Wow! What a fantastic evening! Our son sets up for evening worship at the Lutheran Church in his home town, and after the service, the wife and I went over so I could do  some impromptu playing. Ended up playing a trio with our son on trombone, the church organist, and me playing Amazing Grace! What a rush. Also played solo TheAsh Grove, duets on Blowin' in the Wind, Green Green Grass of Home, Oh Shenandoah, Man of Constant Sorrow, and Wayfaring Stranger.

Total of about 40 minutes. Our son's best comment, "Wow, who would have ever thought I would be playing a Bob Dylan tune with my dad!".

Our son recorded without me knowing it and it is definitely not of high quality nor is my playing, but it was FUN!

A good practice day, 50 minutes playing The Ash Grove, Blowin' in the Wind, Green Green Grass of Home, Oh Shenandoah, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Man of Constant Sorrow, House of the Rising Sun, Dark Island, Wayfaring Stranger, and Taps. Once again, most time spent on The Ash Grove and Blowin' in the Wind. I think I'm getting close to recording Blowin' in the Wind, at least I'm hoping so.

Total of about 40 minutes today. Twenty minutes practicing and setting up for recording Taps for Memorial Day and about 20 minutes of The Ash Grove and Amazing Grace later in the afternoon.

Here is the video I made (even though it is also in the Taps Across America 2022 thread).

Forty minutes tonight, playing the usual The Ash Grove, Blowin' in the Wind, Green Green Grass of Home, Oh Shenandoah, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Man of Constant Sorrow, House of the Rising Sun, Dark Island, and Wayfaring Stranger.

Not very exciting but keeping consistent.

After 154 straight days of practice, I skipped playing yesterday! There was no special reason, I just didn't feel like it!

I did find out that Taps Across America did not post my video on their YouTube channel, but CBS Taps did pick it up and posted it!

Back to work again! Fifty minutes playing The Ash Grove, Blowin' in the Wind, Green Green Grass of Home, Oh Shenandoah, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Man of Constant Sorrow, House of the Rising Sun, Dark Island, Wayfaring Stranger, and Amazing Grace.

I think I needed that day off. Most stuff came a bit easier and even The Ash Grove went fairly well with the click track.

By the way, the copyright infringement notice I got back on April 29th has expired without any consequences. The copyright holders had 30 days to pursue it and Ode to Joy Redux is now clear of the notice.

JohnG

I had never thought about doing blowing in the wind before, great choice! And good job sounded good.

Thanks for posting.
