Half an hour yesterday and 40 minutes today, playing the same repertoire. Ashokan Farewell, A Taste of Honey, On the Wings, Down by the Sally Gardens, Oh Shenandoah, Wayfaring Stranger, Gypsy Rover, The Wellerman, Wild Mountain Thyme, Blowin' in the Wind, and Simple Gifts.

Was hoping to join our son today in a rehearsal with the other members of the Praise Band at his church, but family conflicts on his end caused us to cancel. Hopefully next week. This is the second time we've had to cancel as last time he and a couple of kids were sick!

After a couple of more days of not practicing because of feeling a little punk, I got in half an hour tonight playing Blowin' in the Wind, Ashokan Farewell, A Taste of Honey, On the Wings of a Snow White Dove, and Simple Gifts.

Really liking the TonalEnergy app, especially the percentage of in tune/close/out of tune after playing a piece.

Really glad to hear you are still using the TonalEnergy app!

I'm bummed out it won't work on my laptop... haven't exhausted every possibility, but I have exhausted my enthusiasm. 😔

@ELCBK - Have you tried the TonalEnergy on your phone? I started off using my Kindle Fire, but being lazy didn't always go get it and since my phone is always with me, started using it more and for what I use TE, it works fine.

Skipped another night yesterday but got 40 minutes in tonight playing Blowin' in the Wind, Ashokan Farewell, A Taste of Honey, On the Wings of a Snow White Dove, and Simple Gifts. Also tried out Absinthe as it intrigued me.

I have it on my phone, but haven't used it - hate constantly enlarging little spots on the screen for me to see better.

Taking a break from my last group of tunes I was working on, so just busy learning my current batch, while still recycling a few older ones.

I like to learn by playing along with a video of how I want to sound - even if I'm reading off sheet music.  It essentially negates the need for the app, since easy to follow rhythm & check my intonation against the music video.

...may see about trying it out when I'm ready to refine this new tune group. 😊

Put in 40 minutes today on Maureen, playing Blowin' in the Wind, Ashokan Farewell, A Taste of Honey, On the Wings of a Snow White Dove, Simple Gifts, and Absinthe. Also tried out the four parts of Wexford Carol after converting all four to alto clef. Thanks @Fiddlerman for including the .mxl file! I obviously don't know what the final parts will look like, but I can always attempt to create my own multipart version to record.

I really fell in love with this tune after recently watching the Alison Krauss and Yo-Yo Ma version on YouTube.

You are very welcome. I can do that every time. I work in Finale and it's very easy to export the file as a .mxl file after I"m done.
Also, I'm all about music sharing.....

I listened to the Alison Krauss version about a week ago John. Wanted to hear as many versions as possible before writing some parts. That has some great examples of the bass line that I will probably be adding. Almost like drones throughout.
It's impressive to see an incredibly talented and well known musician such as Yo-yo Ma sit back and play in such a discreet manner without taking over.

Put in another 40 minutes today playing Blowin' in the Wind, Ashokan Farewell, A Taste of Honey, On the Wings of a Snow White Dove, Simple Gifts, and Absinthe. Again concentrated on the Wexford Carol. Plus, I needed to spend some time on fundamentals of bowing and intonation.

This was also posted in The Traveler thread.

The Traveler is FINALLY on its way to @SharonC. Fedex told me she should get it on Monday by end of day, but receipt says Saturday, Oct 1. We'll see.

Here are a few pictures while I was getting it ready. Nothing exciting, but documents the event.

Got back to practicing tonight, playing Wexford Carol for a half hour. I'm really liking this tune and I've asked my son to learn it (which is no problem for him) so we can experiment with playing it as a duet. My thinking is to play it with me playing the melody first and him playing the second or third clef, then reversing the roles, and then playing the melody together. Might be interesting.

Tomorrow I'll be attending the rehearsal of the Praise Band at his church. Don't know how much playing I'll actually do, but it should be interesting and fun. It's been decades since I've even attended session like this and the first that I'll attempt to join in on.

I had some thoughts tonight about the TonalEnergy app while practicing. I also documented this in the TonalEnergy app thread and a couple of things I really like about it. First is the elapsed time in the app so I can better keep track of how long I practice. Second is the bar at the top of the screen that shows in tune, kind of close intonation, and out of tune percentages to see if I'm getting closer. Felt really good tonight when I hit 46% in tune and 46% close when playing Wexford Carol.

Another thing is something that I'm going to try soon. Make a video concentrating on the TonalEnergy app screen and then playing it back to see WHICH notes have poor intonation.

Had a great session tonight with our son's Praise Band for 80 minutes. No sheet music and I just improvised and didn't get in trouble. They actually asked me several times to play at the church service tomorrow. I stayed next to our son while he played trombone and kinda listened to where he was going. I declined the invitations but will consider doing it in the future. It was an amazing experience and will at least attend future practice sessions. Our son seemed genuinely impressed, which made it even more fun.

Back to Wexford Carol today with a 30 minute practice. I now have an added incentive to learn this well. Our son passed the score on to the Praise Band's leader as a possible tune to play at church during the Christmas season. That's assuming that @Fiddlerman doesn't object to his score being used in this way.

I never get disturbed by people using any of my work. I've seen people use my stuff and pretend that it's there's. It's music, it belongs to everyone or anyone who wants to use it as far as I'm concerned. I'm a sharer. Tell him that he is welcome to it.

Also, if they make any changes, or add any parts, I would like to see it in case we want to do the same.

@JohnG @Fiddlerman

Maybe some of the members of that group would like to join the group project. I don't think this is forum members only(?), right?

Except none are string players! Three vocalists, a piano player, and a trombonist. Plus a drummer who was not there on Saturday.

Another 30 minutes on Wexford Carol tonight. One particular problem are measures 10-11 of the 1st part where the 16th notes run into the triplet 1/8th notes. Getting better, but not ready for primetime. Another problem area I had, but has gotten better was measure 9 of the 1st part in the jump up from G to F♮ and the following 1/8th note D and quarter note C.

Edited: Forgot that we won't have the Praise Band rehearsal next week since we will be celebrating our son's birthday on Saturday. He'll be turning 50 on Oct 10! I refuse to believe that we have a son that is that old. We must have adopted him when he was 20 (not really!).

Another half hour tonight, but not all on Wexford. I was having too much trouble with both intonation and tone. As a result, I spent some time on scales, bow exercises, and simple tunes. It really helped.

Half hour again tonight on Wexford plus about 5 minutes on Simple Gifts and some improv. Just needed to play something different. I've been playing on along with the MuseScore rendition to not only improve timing but also intonation. Should be ready to record about December 1 (lol).

Forty-five minutes tonight with 1/2 hour on Wexford and 15 minutes on Ashokan Farewell, Blowin' in the Wind, Down by the Sally Garden, Simple Gifts, and Amazing Grace. Fun evening.
