@Mouse - Thanks, I hope so.

Only 20 minutes tonight on Wexford Carol. Couldn't seem to "get in the groove" and gave up in disgust. Hopefully better tomorrow.

@JohnG -

I'm really sorry you are struggling with this, figured you'd have Wexford Carol so stuck in your head by now - you'd be playing it in your sleep.

If you can get some sleep & try fresh - it will help.

Try watching SharonC's play-along & just listening a few times through before practicing.

...I'll probably record on Sunday - you'll get it!

After all this, hope you play it all throughout the Holidays!

So, after an hour and a half today attempting to record Wexford Carol, it is done and submitted, I may however attempt to record it again as there are some shaky notes here and there. In addition, I'm not sure it will be accepted by @Fiddlerman. We shall see.

Only posting it here, for now.

@Fiddlerman - Thanks, although with the extra time, I may resubmit a better version!

Tonight was 40 minutes playing Wexford Carol, Coventry Carol, The Holly and the Ivy, I Saw Three Ships, Greensleeves, Oh Come, O Come Emmanuel, What Child is This?, Away in a Manger, Joy to the World, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Good King Wenceslas, and Deck the Halls. This was not serious learning, but just playing through each one once or twice just for the fun of it.

@JohnG -

Did you play along with the click track for the Wexford video you submitted?

You sounded wonderful and because the tone of my Viola sounds different from yours, just on a whim I thought - how cool would it be to hear yours & mine together!

Then, it became obvious... half way through, starting approx at the beginning of the repeat, you loose the timing and lag noticeably behind from there on - otherwise, you sounded GREAT!

I hesitate to mention this, but you may not have even noticed it, because maybe it was something to do with your source of the click track - a latency caused by hearing aids, tablet, or even YouTube.  Man-made stuff screws up, too - all I could do was double check against the click track.

Just thought you'd like to know where to focus if you are planning to re-submit this part, but keep in mind none of us submit a perfect video - mine certainly wasn't as good as I would've liked.  I found it very hard to play those 1st 3 notes, for the Viola 1 part!  I couldn't get the string crossing to sound good, so chose to shift up after the 1st note - and I hated how short the the 1st note was written, it was very difficult for me to articulate without sounding harsh - and my intonation will never be perfect... I always wish I could've done better. 🎅

@ELCBK -  Thank you for your comments and support. You're right, the final G in the first ending was held for two full beats (4 8th notes) instead of one and half. I had problems with trying to use the click track with its timing issues and used a different mp3 which for some reason was inaccurate. Will re-record.

@Unfretted - Thank you, of course now I'll have to correct my timing error and re-record.

@ABitRusty - Thanks, it's coming along and someday perhaps I'll be as good as you and many others on this forum.

Tonight's practice was only about 10 minutes, while I tried to find out what was wrong with my recording and found that the mp3 I used was incorrect as I didn't use the click track.

@JohnG ,  I’m sorry to hear that you’ve hit this little glitch.  It can be very frustrating, especially when we all have Christmas activities we’d like to focus on. But I’m sure you’ll power through this!

I don’t know if you’ve listened to any of Gibbles’ violin tutorials on this.  He begins each one with a fine play through of the whole piece.  If you determine which of his tutorials is closest to the viola part you’re playing, it may be very helpful to play along with Gibbles for a bit.  After that, it should be easier to get in sync with Fiddlerman’s All Parts click track.

Good luck. I’m sure you’ll do a great job!!

@JohnG -

You won't have any trouble!  You've already proved you could do the 1st half great, just repeat it while listening to the correct timing in your ear, this time. 🤗

Half an hour tonight, playing Wexford Carol, Amazing Grace improv, and A Man of Constant Sorrow improv. Decided to work on intonation and tone, in addition to the first ending problem, as long as we have the extra time.

Whoo hoo, 50 minutes today practicing and recording Wexford Carol (again). Hopefully good enough to add to the group project for Christmas. @Fiddlerman - It's been re-added to the group Dropbox with the same name as last time. Hope it doesn't cause confusion.

Here is my corrected version.
