So glad to see you haven't closed submissions yet!  I really want to try this!

Are the viola parts different than the violin parts?  I think I'm capable of the violin 3 and 4 parts, and since I often help out the violas in our beginner orchestra, I wondered if I might try that here too.

My beginning violin student son would like to submit a video, so I may just write out some long whole notes for him to drone in the background.  If you don't care for it, feel free it omit it.

@RanchGirl - firstly - welcome to the forum !  thumbs-up

The background to this project was that as originally scored, there was not much uptake - possibly seen as too difficult for beginners - and the original deadline just passed by with too few submissions for a final mix-down.

Basically, you can ignore (other than reading for interest) the first 7 pages of this forum thread, and go directly to the start of page 8 - at  https://fiddlerman.com/forum/game-of-thrones-project/game-of-thrones-project/page-8/#p93617 - which contains links to the updated score and various minor corrections made.

On that page, you'll find scored parts for violin (1,2,3,4), viola (1,2,3,4) and a couple of cello parts identified as cello 3, 4.

Of course, before you can submit anything, you WILL require the "play-along" / "click-track" (which isn't available yet) so all players end up in time and synch....   But, that shouldn't prevent private practice in any way.

As far as varying the parts - I hesitate to use the word "improvise" because it can mean something else - but - sure - if you understand the chord structure and timing of the piece, playing anything that "fits to the basic harmony at all points in time" would work well enough given it will only be one part of many in the mix - so - personally, I would see no issue at all with making a simplified drone part - in fact - that sounds like a good plan for this piece !

For most of these projects, Pierre @Fiddlerman really needs around 20 parts upwards to mix down - if your drone part is in time, and fits harmonically into the overall piece, honestly, I don't see an issue !

Enjoy the forum ! drummer

@Mariana - I think I understand what you're saying, but it really is better to listen in-ear on headphones or ear-buds etc while recording, just to make sure the play-along REALLY doesn't contaminate the final mix!

[ The "down-side" to "playing over" the backing track is that in areas where there is a solo instrument (well its a violin1+viola1 "duet", with no other voices, in bar 23) - if you were playing say vln2, 3, 4 etc - you would be on a 4 beat rest - and then the mic would certainly pick up the violin1+viola1, contaminating your vln2, 3, 4 etc.... ]

Glad you find it helpful though 🙂  Well done, and keep at it !

@marsupia - excuse my limited Spanish -

Es importante darse cuenta que la intención de la pista .mp3 de arriba nunca fue de ser una pista "play-along" (no sé como se dice "play-along" en Español jejeje) - solamente para darse consideración al tempo y el ritmo de la pieza en general....

And for others - It's important to observe that the .mp3 track above was never intended to be a play-along track, it's only to give an idea of the overall tempo and rhythm of the piece

Hia @Ripton / Stevie - Merry Xmas to you !   The answer to your question, as far as I know so far, is no, there is no specific deadline - the "deadline" will occur, as I understand it, is quite simply when Pierre @Fiddlerman has had sufficient submissions to allow a good, workable final mix-down.   The problem, I think, is that when there IS a specific deadline, everyone puts-it-off till the last minute (never a good idea), and given the earlier attempt at the project had such a low up-take, I guess that's why he's chosen to do it this way, and just wait for, and collect, incoming submissions - when there are enough, he'll probably give a "final notice" - like - I have enough now, if there are any more to come, send 'em in in the next 3, 4, whatever weeks.....   That's *MY* understanding of the situation Steve.

HTH

Are submissions using an electric violin allowed, or do they have to be acoustic?

@kody - an EV will be just fine - it will become one-part-of-many in the final mix 🙂

Now that the Christmas project is complete, I am going to start working on this. I absolutely love this piece and really hope that Pierre gets enough submissions to make it worth doing the mixing and publishing.

@Fiddlerman -  Along those lines, would it be possible to know what parts you already have submissions for and what parts you need?

Thanks,

Cyndie

@CyndieZ ( and everyone practicing for the project ) please all read and understand what I wrote in my post at https://fiddlerman.com/forum/game-of-thrones-project/game-of-thrones-project/page-9/#p95505 above - that synth track was ONLY to let folks get a feel for the tempo at whatever bpm it was set to - it is NOT Pierre's click track.....  and indeed, may NOT BE THE FINAL AGREED TEMPO.   (As far as I know, we don't have that yet - I ONLY posted the mp3 to give folks a chance to have something to play-along to for practice purposes, nothing more !

IT ( MY .MP3 SYNTH TRACK ABOVE) IS NOT FOR SUBMISSION PURPOSES

To the best of my knowledge, there can not be any submitted tracks yet, in the absence of a published click-track from @Fiddlerman for everyone to use...

I'm sorry if my enthusiasm in doing this was misunderstood - that .mp3 track was ONLY for letting folks experiment with the piece...

PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION FOLKS ......

Duh! I was thinking back to parts that had originally been submitted and forgetting that the parts have been rewritten. Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow @BillyG !

I'll be patient - I'm sure Pierre is still trying to recover from the December rush! 🙂

@Ripton - Steve - are you referring to the post here https://fiddlerman.com/forum/game-of-thrones-project/game-of-thrones-project/page-9/#p95505 - where I placed an mp3 "play-along" file ?

I ask, because it is NOT the official clicktrack - it's only there to give folks something to practice with - and IT MAY NOT NECESSARILY BE THE FINAL DECIDED TEMPO.

However : if you have MuseScore then you can "animate" the score - isolate different instruments, add drum-clicks and so on - here is the MuseScore .mscz file if it is in any way useful -

Game-of-Thrones-ens.mscz

Hope that helps....    [ If you DON'T have Musescore, I could create an animated video, but I'm kind of busy right now.... ]

EDIT: Steve - if you let me know which part you are interested in, I can make a single animated play-along video (so you can follow the timing, both visually as notes get highlighted in the score, and by a click) - but these take a little bit of time - so I'm not gonna do all 12 parts facepalmLOL - it would end up something similar to what I did on Howard Shore's "Misty Mountains Cold" - here -

Lets say part 3 VLA. I have 3 and 4 down fairly well. Except the timing that is. I tried on 120bpm but my met is acting crazy so it sounded more like 550bpm. Now you want to talk some frantic bowing.... LOL.
