@Fiddlerman - welcome back - caught your holiday pics on FB - I'm not much into making FB responses other than hitting the occasional "Like" etc - but great to see you clearly had a good time with family and friends - that's what is important in life - nice one !
Last night, Thursday 25th, I attended a concert in Ullapool to see Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham - (LOL there is another story behind this, but I'll share it in a separate thread) who are both frequent guests on things like Transatlantic Sessions, which surely no fiddler, or indeed violinist, can ignore.
Man, I'm still shaking here - WTF is 21/8 time - come ON get REAL - you CANNOT stamp or clap in "time" to that... DOH !!!!! What he played was described as a fiddle tune (although, yes, I understand such timings are not totally unknown, just a bit unusual....), developed by some old farmer guy in Shetland, who was watching his wife work a spinning-wheel and he tried to form a rhythm to her footwork on the treadle of the wheel... yup..ok... spooky or what...
Anyway - it was a small audience ( less than 200 - but the small hall was packed out - ^5 to Aly ( and of course to Phil - the mad accordionist ) for coming back to their Scottish roots and playing to small audiences as they always do in spite of their huge international reputation - nice one - - super cool - there is NOTHING better than a live performance, truly, to me, there is not. "Warts and all" - each and every one - even by the same performers - is unique.
Sorry - I know - this has NOTHING to do with Thaxted - just HAD to get that one off my chest .. and I have spent today trying to do what for me are still impossible things on the Concert ( man, is it taking a beating or what ! )
Anyway - back to Thaxted - I guess it looks like a "deadline" needs to be set, in spite of your better plans ( which we all of course wish were reached ).... I have a thought - it struck me - did you originally ask for a maximum of two parts to be submitted by each player? Maybe I misunderstood - I know you did say that anyone who did v1 must also submit another part - I guess that meant two things - i.e.
(1) If you feel you cannot do v1 - just submit one part
(2) If you submit v1 - then ONLY submit one additional part
I mentioned this before - and indeed you commented - often the 2nd, 3rd etc parts can actually be more difficult ( for us mere mortals - not you words - mine ! )
If there's a "misunderstanding" about the number of parts any one individual can submit, that may bring in a few more submissions...
man - I need to go - i've been awake for close on 40 hours but had to catch up with the forum.... sleeeep and tf for spllep cechker (lolol) - trust me - that's the ONLY way this post was half way readable.....
Bill
...off to put up the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz for many's an hour.... catch you alll tomorriw - oh it may already be.. who knows... g'night all
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -
Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

I have also been having a go at Thaxted, as I am sure many others have. Like me, I think many are looking to see how many submissions there have been and thought I will practice a bit longer, so there are probably a lot more due to submit nearer to a deadline. It might be a good idea for some of us to reveal if this is our intention so we can get an idea of numbers.

Ah having my new webcam AND a deadline gave me the boost I needed to get back to work on Thaxted.
Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.
