A Western Classical Violinist learning to interpret trad Korean Folk music on Violin!
"Playing Korean Sanjo on the Violin" - loads of info in this lecture & World Premiere Performance, from the Kim Ilgu School of Ajaeng Sanjo with Dr. Soh-Hyun Park Altino.
Very interesting interview with Dr. Soh-Hyun Park Altino, she breaks down the sanjo trad Korean folk music, instruments, rhythms and shows how to adapt it to violin playing, with some new techniques to learn!
Altino was brought up on Western Violin music & discovered the nuances of traditional Korean music more recently. She equates traditional sanjo music with language, from inflections down to rhythm. She gives us the help she didn't have for herself, learning this style of music!
Wow, LOVE her attention to detail... LOVE the bowed zither (ajaeng), too!
I have the video starting at 5:47, before that is mostly interview fluff.
