Hello I am a 53 year (young) female, married and I live in the countryside in the UK...I love my little house, I have no neighbours so I can play the violin any time of the day/night as there is only grass/sheep/cows/birds around me
I would consider myself intermediate, I have the violin of 'my life' a Laura Vigato 2014 violin I bought from Laura Vigato herself when it was freshly made, I fell in love with it and will never need another violin in life as it's a match in heaven for me.
I work a lot (my husband is lucky and works from home) so am out of the house 13 hours a day, but I still manage to squeeze in 1 and a half hours practice a day somehow.
I have the BEST teacher in the world (I may be biased I hear you say!), and I have 'zoom' lessons once a week for an hour with her, she's thousands of miles away from me sadly. The online lessons work very well actually, I hope one day I can go and meet her in person she's fab!
Anyway, thank you for allowing me to join, I will enjoy reading your posts/watching your videos and I hope I can contribute too one day

WELCOME to the Fiddlerman Forum!
It's really great you found a Violin AND Teacher you love!
What kind of music do you like to play?
Wonderful people here - glad you found us!

Thank you Emily (and thank you to all the others too )
I like to learn/play classical therefore trying to play the usual classical stuff.
I have a lot of not so good technique to fix (like many others..violin learning is a minefield!) so my teacher is helping iron out these things....I am also trying to 'mature/develop' my vibrato...I am at that stage where I can do it but it needs to become 'part of me' if you know what I mean
Recently learnt the Eccles Violin Sonata in G minor mov 1 and 2, now my crazy (but wonderful) teacher wants me to try and learn Danse Espagnole by Manuel de Falla....I told her I believe this is way too difficult for me but she keeps telling me the opposite, that it is not and that I can play it....we shall see
Also working on the 2nd movement of Wieniavski violin concerto N2 (the slow movement)
I still have to develop the courage to play for others, I have never been able to...it is taking me a long time to make the gremlins in my head go away (those that say you don't sound 'nice'/good)

I wonder if the 'fixing' thing ever ends!
Oooooo... LOVE Baroque music & that Sonata in G minor by Henry Eccles is absolutely beautiful!
I LOVE off-string work AND Spanish rhythms, so Danse Espagnole by Manuel de Falla sounds like you could have a lot of FUN... having the right bow could make a difference, but that's strictly my opinion.
Many members here play Classical music, even though sometimes it's hard to tell. I'm sure the more questions & discussions you start will help draw them out... or add to old threads & revive them. I don't play Classical music, but doesn't mean I'm not interested. I try to include info on Classical music when relevant. I'm VERY fond of music from the Baroque Era, though.
Playing in front of others AND recording ourselves for others to watch - HUGE problem for many (if not all) of us! There's something to be said about a gentle 'nudge' to get out of your comfort zone - amazing things to discover & I'm grateful to everyone here. The "Party Room" was started to encourage more self-recording AND to get people to try new music. Just like anything else, the more you do it, the easier it gets! ...you can even add to 'old' Parties, but hey - NO pressure, you can just comment if you like. Unfortunately, even though YouTube videos can be marked private, some of the videos in the Parties have been taken down by the members who posted them - personally, I think it's great to see how we've changed over the last couple years.
Members have also shared their playing other places - everyone here is supportive.
