Hi all! Silly me letting me first post be a cry for help up on the playing the violin forum. I've already been welcomed and I'm glad this seems to be a great site which has already helped me become a better violin player (even if it only has been for a week.) really amped up to see a fiddlerman reply to posts and not be some senior executive up there high in the food chain who doesn't care about his forum. Overall happy I've been welcomed by my fellow New Englanders as well! Pretty cold out here in sub zero temps but that just means more practice time. Can't wait to contribute to forums and maybe even post a vid or two when I get better. Be safe all!! Soldier out!!

When I was one of the concert masters in Gävle Symfoniorkester we had a new guest conductor visiting (potential chief conductor) called Hannu Koivula. I remember the first thing he said before he lifted his baton.
He said it in Swedish but it translates to something to this effect: "I'm from Rovaniemi, way up north in Finland and there are only two things that you can do there. Fish or make love. In the winter it's too cold to fish"...... He then lifted his baton and we played...
He became the chief conductor for the orchestra as well.
