The 5-string violins tend to be a bit thicker, sometimes wider but not longer and the fingerboard is often wider as well. They differ from one another depending on the maker.

A quick question : is the violaman.com forum totally dead (and buried) ? seems that it isn't sending activation e-mails so one can't register there. Or is it just me and I should try again ?

@wtw I haven't been there for a while. So I am unsure.
I considered viola for a long time .... I had a cello for a few years, and wanted to do viola because of the sound... IN the end I was not making progress with violin so I dug into violin only.
Regardless you are always welcome here and we all like to chat about viola.

wtw, it isn’t you. I tried to join it, too. I then noticed there is a viola section here. Makes sense for the Fiddlershop people to just include viola and cello with this because it saves them having to have one or two more forums to monitor, plus, it makes it easier for us to chat about and ask questions about all three in one forum.

While I still go over and visit Violaman.com, I use it mostly for the DIY learning videos, it has always been a bit sleepy .Once Pierre introduced me to this site life got real interesting. Welcome my fellow violists .
