I hate writing these things. Exactly what do you say when making those first tentative steps into a new and scary group?

Well, first of all, my name's mythlover20; most people call me myth. I'm a full-time carer for my elderly mother, a writer (unpublished), ballroom dancer, editor, gamer, sometimes amateur seamstress, and I also occassionally dabble in the visual arts. Most recently added to that list was my beautiful green violin now named Thane. I bought him about a year ago now. Or rather, he bought me. I've been trying to teach myself to play Classical music since then, though not as dilligently as I would like due to my carer's responsibilities.

I live in Far North Queensland, Australia, where it is currently very hot and very wet, in a small country town about 200km away from the nearest tutors, who I'm convinced won't have anything to do with me because of my carer's responsibilities. I love Classical, Opera, Viking Folk Metal, Symphonic Metal, and pretty much anything I can dance to so long as it isn't country or, surprisingly, a slow waltz.

I'm learning to play mostly for my own pleasure. I love violin music and always have. And, well, a violin was cheaper than a piano (which I had previously started learning and have completely forgotten everything, including how to read music), and doesn't take up as much space. :P

There. How was that?

Oh, and here's Thane. :)

OOOOooooh Green!!!  (with an Incredibow - I think)

Thane is most welcome here. He will find it a wonderful and exhilarating establishment. He will be treated with the utmost respect. We don't care about varnish color here. What counts is on the inside. We do welcome guests of our members. So, you can tag along with Thane when he comes to visit. You will be as welcome as he is. (probably more, as you are his guest of honor)

Myth, join in when and how you can. We are an ever growing family and welcome any who drop by. :)

Hi everyone! Thanks for the welcome. Glad to see I'm not the only Aussie, too! (I think I will need someone to translate, sometimes ;) ) And a New South Welshman too! (Don't get me wrong. I may live in QLD but I'm one of you. (Go the Blues)).

I don't know. You guys are still pretty scary, we'll have to wait and see. :P

Honestly though I recently had a very, very bad experience on forums I once felt safe and welcome so I apologise if I'm a little tentative and not as open as the rest of you.

@Tyberius. I don't know what the bow is. It was the one which came with Thane.

Oh, hold on a sec.....

Thane says he doesn't know either. He and the bow met at the pub one night and in their drunken stupor thought a partnership would be a good idea. It's been nearly a year now, and while their friendship is strong, the bow won't say anything about his origins. I think it makes him sad. :(

Hey there Myth, love the color of Thane and I'm sure he plays just as good as he looks :) .  I can relate in a way to a negative experience online when it comes to violin, there are a few places (not to be named) where the 'elitist' attitude shows more and since it's like a street gang there's no chance of defense if they get on ya all at once ;) .

Fear not, I don't think there's anyone here that would be that way and if they tried I think our gang would step up pretty fast haha.  Here's to your great journey and a fun time in the process cheers .

Haha! I think you, Thane and The Bow of Unknown Origins will fit right in here! Loved your introduction. Welcome to the crazy club, and I look forward to more posts from you!

Myth, you don't think that Thane is ...Green with envy, do you? I mean if a bow as good looking as that one was in a pub alone and having that much fun and self confidence, i mean, hay, wouldn't you been a little bent out of shape. If the bow was musically scoring with all the fine and slinky stringed V's in the joint with hardly a crossing problem, who wouldn't be torqued a little? laugh

@Almandin: Ha! "The Bow of Unknown Origins." Such a grandiose title! The bow will love it. He does have a bit of an ego problem, after all. It's a good thing that Thane is such a tolerant individual. :P

Oh, no, Tyberius! Thane doesn't get jealous, he gets even. I don't know how he does it, but he puts that bow back in his place whenever his superiority complex rears it's ugly head. :P (Seriously, though, you're gonna need to translate that joke for me. I know what those words mean individually, but together in a musical sense, it kinda goes over my head. Sorry. :( ).

@FiddleDetroit Thank you. I'm still a bit nervous. I've only just tentatively started making my way back to my friends from the other forum , but I'm still nervous (probably why that joke last paragraph is so pathetic). Time will tell, I guess.
