I first picked up a violin in the early '90s. I put it back down a few years later. I still have my Sears violin kit which my teacher deemed at least adequate at the time. So now I'm apprenticed as a repair technician for rental orchestral instruments and my employer said it would be a good idea if I knew more or less how to play the instruments I'm working on. ;-)   I don't expect to do recitals or anything, but 'll have to be able to play SOMETHING on my fiddle.

Over time I'll be the one posting odd questions about playing or repairing these coolest of string instruments.

We'll encourage you as far as you want to go.  Oddly, most of us think playing violins (and somewhat similar instruments) is a good thing... :)

Sears Violin Kit. I love it!!!!

We have 3 full time luthiers at Fiddlershop. One of them is a great violinist and his Apprentice is learning to play the violin for the same reason. The funny thing is that when we hired him he couldn't play and now a days I hear him playing pieces on the violin. I LOVE THAT!!!
He is really enjoying his new journey too.

We're here to help you with any questions that you might have. :)
