I've lurked around the site here a little bit, and decided I would sign up!
My violin history: My parents started me on the violin in 2nd grade, and I played until about 5th grade, made it almost through Suzuki book 4, but then quit. Fast forward about 10 years into the future as a junior in college, and my friend pulls out his violin. I told him I used to play, and I pick it up and terribly play through a couple of book 1 songs I still remember.
Turns out my dad kept my violin in the closet, so I popped some new strings on that bad boy and started relearning! Surprising how fast it comes back, I went about a semester practicing on and off, but didn't have a lot of motivation. Ended up signing up for lessons from a professor at my college, which really gave me the motivation and helped a lot. I'll be continuing lessons and also joining the college's string ensemble in the fall! Very excited.
Currently I'm working on the first three songs in Suzuki book 5, but really can only play the first song (Gavotte I think?) straight through. I really wish I had kept going in 5th grade! I keep wondering what 10 extra years of practice would have done.
