Hello everyone:) Let me just say that it was great to find this forum (and this whole page). I've been watching fiddlermans videos on youtube for some time, but I dicovered this site just now:)
It seems like you have a great and supportive community on this forum and I hope that I can contribute:)
About me. I'm 29 years old and the father of two boys. I used to play the guitar, but i fell in love with the violin after watching the last episode of M*A*S*H I have now been playing for 7 months. I have been following the suzuki books (i'm at the end of #2)on my own, but I think that i could use a teacher to guide me. I'm quite sure that I have made myself a lot of bad habits :/ But maybe I can get a few tips here that can help me. I look forward to discover more, and watch the videos you share:)

Thanks to both:) I have been looking for a good forum to discuss the problems that occur when learning the violin. Right now I am trying to learn how to use the arm vibrato. It is so hard!
With other instruments, like guitar or piano, it is possible to learn how to play well after relatively short time. But with the violin, you really have to earn it.
Maybe that's why I think the violin is so fascinating:)

Im 42 this May and the father of 3 kids, daughter and two sons.
I love the suzuki books and am halfway through book 2. Wow you got that far in 7 months, Im in year 3 of learning. Everyone needs a teacher, never stop learning. The only bad habits are the ones that keep you from practicing your Violin! lol. Everything else is just a technique quirk. If you need any help just ask or post a vid. So glad you joined! See ya round the chat box.

It's so great to have you join us. Yes, you will get much help here, but not from me. I'm very much a beginner and taking it very slowly. I bet you'll end up helping me!
Have fun in the forum. The members and Fiddlerman are great.

Yeah, I hear ya there > you gots to earn it. Although I had to earn the guitar too. There is something about this instrument that is very magical. It has so many possibilities and what wonderful worlds of musical expression it opens.
This site is the best I have found to help ya along the way > There is an abundant amount of info here and >> Well the members just ROCK> they are very helpful.
Pfish: I'm at nr 9 and 10, but i just ran into a brick wall on the fast bits of those tunes. It is going to be a long time before I can finish book nr 2 But I will ask for help if i'm stuck. Thank's for the offer:)
LindaK: We'll see about that:) It is so great to meet other grown ups that are beginners at the violin. I am sure that we will help each other:)
KindaScratchy: Thank you:) I think I will post a video soon:)
Stonedog: I agree:) It is unique to be able to post something online without being chopped down by the so called "haters". But I'll bet that most of them don't play the violin
Fiddlerman: The last episode is a two hour special, and in the middle Major Winchester is listening to a beautiful piece by Mozart. When i heard that it just struck me, and i just wanted to play the violin just to be able to express myself like that. Thank you for making this page and for all the work you put in it:)

Kristian, I'm excited about you uploading the Mash portion. I love it too and don't remember it.
It was Lord of the Rings music that made me want to play the violin. Every time I heard the main theme, I'd go crazy. There is so much violin music that Howard Shore created in LOTR and I usually listen to it every night before going to sleep.

ratvn: Thank you:) I already enjoy this place. It is an amazing group of people here:)
Linda: I love the LOTR music as well:) I try to play it on the violin sometimes, but it is just not the same:) It is fascinating how some music just can hit you right in your soul. I will definetly upload the clip from Mash:)

@Grunyon I absolutely love Fawlty towers:) I had to search up the theme music though, I couldn't remember it at first. It reminds me of saturday
I agree with your signature:) I thought quite a bit about what music is and why it appeals to us in this way. And I do believe that (some) music is the language of the soul, and that is why it hits us there.
Weell, enough philosophical thoughts for now. Great to have you on the forum grunyon!

Cheers Frequenzy; Fawlty Towers is still my favourite comedy. I apologize for my brevity, but my son VonJabey has just received his new, first violin; mine too, truth be told; so much excitement here in the Basil Estate.
P.s. I thought there was an issue; called Fiddlershop, and Pierre answered, and walked me through the problem, yup operator error.
Music is in the soul, not the instrument; but the instrument helps a lot.
