I’m AJ. I’m 47 years old but it’s never too late to learn something new.  I just got my violin 3 weeks ago, and I've been struggling with how to hold it without pain-old shoulder injury- Pierre is going to help me with this today and hopefully I'll be able to play this beautiful instrument.  Fiddlershop is the best customer service I've experienced in a very long time. Thank you Christina!

Welcome to the forum, AJ Rhino. You will learn a lot from Pierre and this forum. Feel free to share your experiences, too.

Welcome Al. Many of us are adult starters/learners. I also struggle with shoulder injuries. It slows me down and sometimes restricts me hitting the C string but I make do.

Welcome ! @AJ Rhino - yeah - as the years go by, things happen to us!!!  47- heck you're a youngster - I have 20 years on you and started 5 years back- NEVER too old!!!   Shoulder? mine's OK, but I struggle with my right hand, pinkie especially due to a "crush" injury on my right hand years back....  I didn't seek medical attention at the time and just resorted to washing-out the various cuts and incisions under running cold-water till the bleeding stopped, then covering it all with lots of kitchen towel doused in antiseptic and using duct-tape to finally wrap it all together.... (well, that's just what we do...)  Hmmmm -

I truly hope you get past the shoulder issue and find a comfortable playing hold/position/posture - because - well - it will be the journey of a lifetime !   Enjoy your learning process, never be discouraged, and never hesitate to ask questions on the forum - many levels of players here - all happy to assist.

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

AJ Rhino

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you find a comfortable solution,

I had the same issue my solution was to go restless, just cosmetic pan like fiddlershop sells.
