Hello everyone! I am a retired teacher who started learning violin about two years ago. Currently, I am teaching myself with the help of violin and fiddle methods, Matt Cranitch and Craig Duncan's books just to name a few. They have helped me a lot. I also go to YouTube for more advice and simply to keep my motivation up. Actually, I learned my very first song on YouTube with fiddlerman, btw, thank you for this! :) Violin teachers are hard to be found where I live. Still, the few fiddlers I used to know were all learning fiddle by ear by listening one another! Of course if the situation where I live changes or if a new teacher offer lessons, I'll be happy to attend a few courses with a teacher one day. I already play a bit of guitar every day and have a keyboard but I rarely use it. I like almost all kind of violin or fiddle styles especially Cajun, French Canadian and Celtic music but I am not versed in Jazz much, though I can appreciate someone being able to play it. That's all for now! :)

Welcome to the forum, Cajun Fiddle. There are plenty more instructions/lessons and sheet music provided, free of charge, by Fiddlerman. Check out the menu bar above the forum. Great info there!

@Cajun Fiddle -

Welcome to the Fiddlerman Forum!

Love having new Fiddlers join the forum!

I've been down to New Orleans a couple times &

love ALL the music down there -

just haven't tried any alternative tunings, yet.

I'm also self taught and been playing a little over 2 years.

Hope you have a great time Fiddling with us!

 Thank You! :) I wish to go to once it'll be safer to travel. Much of my extended family comes from the area of New-Brunswick and Nova-Scotia, they are Cadjan as they use to say ! :) Part of them went to Quebec and others went to Louisiana though. I heard of G Cajun tuning and the Irish dropped D , double dropped d but I haven't try it yet!

Wow , thank you both, Mark and SharonC for the welcome! :)

@Mark that's nice to hear! I have a son too but cannot see him much for he has to travel to very remote areas because of his work.

Hey, thank you Fiddlerman! smile Yes, You did and before trying my new song, I was simply doing scales and follow some of Alyson's violin lessons, the piano and violin teacher. Thank you also for all the other helpful tutorials.
