Hello everyone! I am a retired teacher who started learning violin about two years ago. Currently, I am teaching myself with the help of violin and fiddle methods, Matt Cranitch and Craig Duncan's books just to name a few. They have helped me a lot. I also go to YouTube for more advice and simply to keep my motivation up. Actually, I learned my very first song on YouTube with fiddlerman, btw, thank you for this! Violin teachers are hard to be found where I live. Still, the few fiddlers I used to know were all learning fiddle by ear by listening one another! Of course if the situation where I live changes or if a new teacher offer lessons, I'll be happy to attend a few courses with a teacher one day. I already play a bit of guitar every day and have a keyboard but I rarely use it. I like almost all kind of violin or fiddle styles especially Cajun, French Canadian and Celtic music but I am not versed in Jazz much, though I can appreciate someone being able to play it. That's all for now!

Love having new Fiddlers join the forum!ย
I've been down to New Orleans a couple times &
love ALL the music down there -
just haven't tried any alternative tunings, yet.
I'm also self taught and been playing a little over 2 years.ย
Hope you have a great time Fiddling with us!ย

ย Thank You! I wish to go to once it'll be safer to travel. Much of my extended family comes from the area of New-Brunswick and Nova-Scotia, they are Cadjan as they use to say !
Part of them went to Quebec and others went to Louisiana though. I heard of G Cajun tuning and the Irish dropped D , double dropped d but I haven't try it yet!
