Hi Everyone,
My Name is Shawn Jayasinghe, I'm 19 as of this year and I finally decided to play the violin. To be honest I really wanted to learn since the age of 11-12 but my parents thought it was to expensive to buy one. But Now I'm currently in university and have saved up quite a bit from my various jobs....I went ahead and bought a Fiddlerman Concert violin as my first and am anxiously waiting for its arrival!!! I am already watching videos on how to hold the bow, the notes on the string even videos on vibrato and spicatto ...stuff a beginner doesn't really need to know right now but I'm just too excited!
On a side note I really like Classical Music, Pop and r&b. And hopefully i learn to play some of the songs I really like on the violin.
Anyway enough of me rambling, it will be nice to meet all of you on the forum!!

Thanks Melissa,
At first didn't know buying from fiddler shop would be a good idea but after seeing all the youtube videos and all the good reviews on the forum I was happy purchasing! By the way Mike and Pierre are Awesome!!
........and also by what you meant still too expensive do you have your own violin or are renting one?
On the other hand The Best of luck to you too!

Welcome to the forum. It can make a person nervous buying stuff off of the Internet. Good News/Bad News: The good news is that there is no bad news, you've made a wise decision. The FM Concert is more than good enough to make great sounding music. For a while, people might think you're torturing a cat, but if you practice enough, that stage will pass fairly quickly. Plus, being at university, you'll probably be able to find plenty of experienced violinists to help you along.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. ~Herm Albright

Hi Shawn, and welcome!
I'm still pretty much a beginner myself (been playing for about six to nine months if you add up all the stops and starts I've had during my year of owning a violin). I'm really enjoying it, although I admit the last couple of weeks have been so busy I've not made time to practice! (Shame on me, lol!)
From all I've heard, you've made a great choice in purchasing the Fiddlerman Concert violin. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything negative about it, ever. And as you've already experienced, the customer service at the Fiddlerman shop is top-notch. I've ordered the carbon fiber bow and the Impressionist chin rest through Fiddlershop, and due to my positive experience with these smaller purchases, and the nearly unanimous praise about their customer service, I'm planning to make my next instrument upgrade through them as well (though that won't be for some time).
Do you already play another instrument, or are you starting your musical journey from scratch? For example, will you just be starting to learn to read music notation for the first time as you learn the violin? No matter what your current level of experience, I'm sure you'll enjoy the process. Have fun, keep watching those videos, and be as excited as you want!
Let us know how it's going!

Sorry For the late Reply,
I've been busy with exams coming Up,
a real burden especially being in engineering ,
Thanks Uzi, Daniel and Toni!!!!
I hoping to plan my whole summer to practising, but I also have to go to work to pay for university!! And when I start I hope I don't sound like I'm torturing a cat for too long!! Anyways I'm happy to see such a supportive community!!!
I have played the guitar for some odd years, but only because my brother took it up and made me take lessons with him. It was fun in the beginning but I lost interest sadly. I want to start fresh and play the violin (an instrument I wanted to play from the start ).
And Melissa, Taking care of 3 kids and learning the violin!!! That seems like a great challenge! Just looking after 1 of my little cousins for the day is hard enough. Anyways Keep it up, maybe if one of your little ones decide to play the violin you can end up teaching them, or taking lessons together!!!(whatever comes first)

Hi!
Congratulations on your decision, and on your new violin! And what a nice balance you will strike, when your left brain needs a break from all that engineering you can break out the fiddle and let your right brain take over!
Have fun on your journey!
