I’m happy to have found this forum!
About me, long story long…
My first choice of instruments as a child was the violin, but the local school didn’t offer stringed instruments and we probably weren’t in a position to buy one.
So…I ended up with a trumpet, played it through the 9th grade and then switched to the french horn when I moved to a new school. To be honest, I absolutely would never be mistaken for someone with natural musical talent.
40 years of life rolled by and this year, at 53, I realized I have the resources and time and was totally out of excuses. When my daughter brought a violin home from school this year, I decided to start down the path and got my own. Fortunately, both my wife and daughter are very supportive, but my spouse also has no idea how much I have already invested in this pursuit. 😬
I’ve been practicing consistently since January, I’m moving along slowly and learning all I can. I’m also very interested in seeing if the 10,000 hour theory is true.
Thanks for reading!

@Sam M -
Glad you found us!
Your enthusiasm is half the battle!
I think the cost is a good motivating factor,
(you won't let it go to waste 😊).
I can't count hours of practice - it varies every day (very lucky my spouse grew up in a large family & can completely tune me out).
By the end of the 1st year, I wanted to keep going with my 5-string Violin and learn more about playing different genres.
End of year 2, I had added my 5-string Viola & reading Alto Clef. Started learning more about music theory, recording, etc...
Year 3 - more Viola & genres, electric violin amps & effects, deeper music theory.
Started into my 4th year (the beginning of last month)...
the rabbit holes just get deeper & deeper - worth every moment!
Have fun on your new adventure!
...btw, AF & Army time for me, Husband is retired AF (still working part-time 😉).
