Hi. I'm completely new to violin and just started learning today. I'm from Dublin in Ireland, and I'm a 3rd year engineering student (mature). I play guitar and clang around on drums, but my dream is an age old one, and that is to be able to play The Gael on violin. I've wanted this since I first seen Last of the Mohicans in the cinema many many years ago. Finally I've made a start on realising that dream, but first I suppose I better get to grips with Twinkle twinkle.
I'm delighted to find this site. The resources available are amazing..thankyou. Go raibh maith agat.

Hi jmckelly - Welcome to the Forum!
My "Better Half" is a "Kelly" - he doesn't play the violin, though.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the number of guitar players here that are also learning the violin. You probably already have an advantage, having strengthened your fingers on a fingerboard!
I wanted to learn "The Gael" soon after I started playing my violin, too. It wasn't long before I tried parts, then all of it (poorly). Slowly, it started to sound better!
Check out Fiddlerman's "A Tune a Week #18" - "The Last of the Mohicans" for a tutorial.
You'll get it quicker than you think.
Have Fun!
- Emily
