Hello there. Im a 35 y.o. beginner from the suburbs of Philly, PA. Just found this place while searching for a new fiddle. I just purchased a K565 from fiddleshop (very helpfull folks) and am eagerly anticipating its arrival.

After some browsing the forum for a while in an attempt to distract myself from the whole waiting thing, I realized this site seems to be quite a gem so decided to register.

Got started a bit late on the violin (about 6 months ago) but am doing my best to make up for lost time. Ive got a couple decades of guitar behind me and a wee bit of clarinet & piano as well. After starting violin lessons in March due to a generous gift from my wife though, its clear to me that the fiddle is definitely where i want to be now and really probably was all along. Just a shame it took so long to figure that out. Im  happy fiddlin' fool now though, so there be no crying over spilt milk from me :)

Thanks to all involved for making such a nice forum and website. Its really great to find a gem like this site at the end of a long internet search.

Not a shame at all, Adam.  You learn some things with every instrument that helps with the others.  Besides, it's handy to be able to play other instruments. You can record your own backing tracks, for example.

Welcome.  This really is a cool place.  I just started less then 2 years ago at 44.

Welcome Adam! You're in good company...we're all fiddlin' fools here.

Congratulations on taking up the fiddle. And you're not starting sooo late; some of us started much later. :)

Please let us know when your fiddle arrives and post some photos or video.

Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome folks, its much appreciated. I havent figured out video yet but I do have a little home recording set up in the basement so I'm looking forward to posting some recorded tunes. Ive enjoyed very much checking out the vids & such posed by others around the forum.

Cant wait for the new fiddle to show up & see how it compares to my current painted plywood screechbox.

Thanks for your introduction Adam.

We have quite a few guitarists that have taken up learning the violin here on this site and it's nice to have another one.
Sounds like you have a great wife who encourages you :-) Is she a musician as well?
Look forward to following your posts and progress here on the forum.

Yeah I've noticed that reading posts...seems to be  some sort of vortex here that traps guitarists and turns them into violin players. Lol. Ok well maybe not...sorry, thats another thing about me i forgot to put in the intro post. I have tendency to make bad jokes :)

Wife isnt a musician so to speak, more of an artist/painter although she can strum a few chords. I did manage to get her to accompany me on "aran boat song" once. She is incredibly supportive of my efforts though. Even tolerates my daily 7am practices. Heck I'm not even sure I could do that if the roles were reversed!

Thanks for the welcome FM.
