Hi everyone! I thought I'd introduce myself, because I like this community and I want to be a part of it.
My name is Kayla, I live in SLC, Utah with my husband and 16-month old baby boy. I just turned 26 and have been playing for maybe 3 weeks to a month? Time has largely lost meaning for me, but the point is I haven't been playing long. I have a middling piano background and some vocal/choir stuff in my past too, but I lost my singing voice when I had my baby and a piano is too big to carry around. On a whim I decided I wanted to learn to play the fiddle. I love music but have never considered myself a musician; real musicians seemed to understand the theories and technicalities of music while I always felt a little lost and scared. These days I've decided to damn the music man and do the things I love to do. So that's why I'm here. To be honest, I was a little hesitant of the violin mostly because I thought the violin community would be snooty. And, well I don't know about other places, but this place at least has been warm and welcoming and feels like a family I never knew I had...and this is only my second post.
I'm anxious to progress, and to get to know some people here! Thanks for having me.

Hi lazerbrainz/Kayla.
To be honest, it is a sad thing, but some (not all) of the online violin communities are more than a bit "snooty" and not very encouraging to beginners, especially adult beginners.
But this is one of the good ones, and there is a lot of encouragement here.
A "real musician" is somebody that plays music. Sounds to me like you definitely qualify. LOL
