I've just begun playing the violin and have been working with the GCV Cremona Kreisler replica that Fiddlershop sells. I learned to read music last December and I have just been fascinated with the physics of violins. I took some pictures of the Kreisler replica. They never seem to do justice to the instrument in real life. I've included a few black and white images so you can see the wood grain. The tiger striping is really nice to look at. Also on this model I chose the rosewood fittings and I think they look great. Since I am still new to all this I can't comment on the sound too much except that the Kreisler replica is much more resonant an instrument than the the Cecilio instrument I was playing on from December to April. Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning more from everyone. Thanks, Chris

Not yet. However, after about 6 months of learning the very basics I do think I will start taking lessons to make sure I'm not developing bad playing habits. Unfortunately the you tube videos can only take one so far before you need a live instructor. But at least I know enough to ask questions now so I think I will be more comfortable in a class.
