Hello everyone, I'm Jacen. I'm 22 years old, and currently reside in Winter Haven, Florida.
I played violin for a few months in elementary school as an extra curricular activity, but wasn't willing to put the proper practice into it, so I stopped. Finally, after about 10 - 15 years, I've taken it up again.
A few days ago I received my new violin in the mail, a Cecilio Mendini MV300. Since then I've been putting myself to work, with the guidance of a Hal-Lonard self teaching dvd, Fiddlerman, and other youtube teachers. It's been a blast so far, can't say the same for the rest of my family :P, though I haven't quite got the hang of switching strings without it sounding like nails on a chalkboard.
I hope to one day play in a quartet, ever since I first heard the soundtrack for the game "Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura".
Here's to many years of enjoyment yet to come, and can't wait to get to know you all!

Welcome to the site Jacen! The intonation on string crossings will come in time :). The first few times I picked up my violin my cat hit the ceiling haha. But practicing on long bow strokes and whole notes, transitioning to a different string each time really helped me clear up intonation plus it gives your ear some extra training for what's on and what's a bit off as you move forward. Low and behold my kitty sits in the same room as I practice now, most of the time falling asleep (boring music to him I guess haha). Congrats on the new Violin and best of luck in your endeavors!

Welcome from Alaska. Have fun.
Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.
