Hi everyone. I'm Christine, mom of a soon-to-be 12 year old budding violinist. She currently plays the saxophone, but has had the desire to play violin for about a year now, so we're going to jump in!
I'm buying her a violin for her birthday (next week). I *think* I have it narrowed down to one of 3 instruments: Cremona SV-175, Cecilio CVN500, or the Gliga Genial. All are priced relatively similarly at $150-$200. I don't want to spend more than that at this point in time. At this very moment, I'm leaning towards the Gliga, but that is likely to change at least 2 or 3 dozen more times before I finally hit "submit" somewhere! (I know it's recommended to purchase in person rather than over the net, but since I live in a rural area I LOVE the convenience of buying online.)
I've been devouring this site for a week or so now & wanted to give a HUGE thank you to everyone, but especially to Fiddlerman himself for this fantastic resource! So, thank you Fiddlerman.
(So, this smiley has nothing to do with my post, but c'mon....who could possibly resist a pole-dancing bunny rabbit???)

Hi Christine and welcome to the forums! Great that your daughter is wanting to learn how to play! That will be such a great birthday present too, I'm sure her face will light up. Diane and Pierre hit it on the head, you should really get involved too. That would be such a great way to not only learn a wonderful instrument yourself but the encouragement it'll give both of you will be endless . Love the pole dancing bunnies too haha.
