Hello, my name is Tyler Ross.  I am 24 years old and am active duty Air Force.  I am stationed at Buckley AFB, Colorado, and am just starting the violin.  I am brand new to instruments and only dabbled for like 4 months on piano when I was 11 or so.  I am jumping head-first into this.  I recently bought an electric violin and a left-handed one, at that.  I am eager to learn as much as I can from you all as I learn to make music of my own.

I am the oldest of 4 siblings.  My younger sister, Jenae, is 13 and she plays both violin and piano; she will be my pseudo-tutor from home in Michigan for the time being.   :)  I have a deep passion for music, especially orchestral/soundtrack-type music.  I recently went to a Piano Guys concert at Red Rocks and that pushed me over the edge and into the world of music.

I can't wait to learn this instrument to its fullest potential and hopefully become a part of this community.  Thanks for having me!

Welcome to the community, Tyler !   It's great fun, lots of "parties" and group projects, apart from the obvious sharing of questions / problems / knowledge...

Enjoy your journey with the violin !

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

Tyler,

Welcome to the violin and to the forum. You are at the start of a wonderful musical journey, and I wish you the best as you get to know your violin.

There are lots of good learning resources here, and it's wonderful that you have your sister to turn to with questions. When you visit your family again, it will be fun for you two to play together.

If you are able to take at least a few lessons to get started, you may find it very helpful. I experimented on my own for a while (using books and videos) but definitely made more progress when I took some lessons this summer. Will be continuing lessons on a monthly basis now.

Hello Tyler!

Fellow lefty here! We are oddities! (In a good way!)

Welcome, and I look forward to seeing another lefty play!

Hey Tyler,

Glad to have you here. Are you able to find a peaceful room to practice in?

I have a feeling we exchanged words somewhere....

Having a sibling to share ideas and tips with is great. Hopefully you'll be able to jam with her soon. Of course it takes time to get great at any instrument. :)
