Hi, I'm Vrei! I got my first violin for Christmas this year. I don't have a ton of time to practice with 2 kids running around all day, but I try to squeeze in a few minutes here and there.

I have absolutely no background in music, save for church choir 14 years ago, but I have always loved the way violin sounds. I can't wait to get past these initial stumbling blocks (learning to read music, getting my hands to relax, etc.) and play something beautiful. Any advice is very much appreciated. ^_^

You have to learn to crawl before you learn to walk or run.  Don't skip the small things and allow yourself the time to learn.

Welcome to the forum Vrei,

Learning the violin will require a lot of time but you do with what you have. It's a full-filling pursuit for so many people and when you make progress it is very satisfying. Good luck.

We look forward to reading your posts. :-)

Welcome, Vrei! And congratulations on such a wonderful Christmas present!

My husband gave me my violin as a Valentine's Day present earlier this year.

The violin is a very special instrument; a sentimental association with it, like getting as a gift from a loved one, makes it that much more special.

Enjoy and keep us posted on how you're doing! You'll get lots of great help here.
