Hi everyone!
I am the newest of newbs and just picked up my first fiddle one week ago. I have wanted to play for almost 10 years but I was hyper focused on my career. Now things are a bit slower and I found a fantastic shop in my city that has free beginner lessons with potluck dinner and bluegrass jam afterwards every Sunday. After my first lesson, I was absolutely hooked and rented a fiddle before I left the shop that day.
I have to say my real fascination with the "fiddle" came from watching Cold Mountain where traditional music played a huge role in the musical score. The range of emotion, the ties to culture and religion, the versatility of the instrument pulled me right in.
I look forward to getting to know a lot of people and hope I can grow to be a half way decent musician.

Glad you now find time in your life to focus on music, and the fiddle specifically. It can be a demanding, but at the same time truly fulfilling journey ! You'll find a huge amount of resources on this site (and of course a lot elsewhere as well) - make use of it all !
And never hesitate to ask questions - you'll find a lot of willing and helpful folks here!
