So about me then? Fine...

Im a 27 year old norwegian, father of two who just bougth his first "School" violin/fiddle. (Brand Leonardo, not that it matters.)
I had the strings changed at a repair sohp so im shure they are propper. I only played the jawharp before. The goal is to get good enough to enjoy the instrument by ear form time to time, also playing for calming stress and sough.
(And if i can whipe that silly grinn of that serinading guitar player by the camp fire ill be really happy too devil )

If i really like to play like this I see me buying a viola within two years.
(Also i hate do the E string. Its too high for my flawor.)

Well, part form violin being far cheaper for my budget.

If the violin is (indeed) my friend, I must accept that it has some unlikable sides. Like some of my other friends, who have high pitch voices or annoying habit's.

There must be more than one way to skin a cat... I mean string a violin. So if I do get better at playing, I might find it better to just remove the annoying string and replacing it with a fatter one. I can still tune it to be a E rigth? (where these crazy ideas keep coming from I don't know.)

Also local shop don't have violas. (I dont buy online, I want to see and examine the product im bying in real life. Just how I'm made.)

But you lot seem like a good gang, so I aim to misbeha... no wait... I aim to stick around.

thumbs-upcheers

roflol That is a great thought RM but it is not that easy.

You can actually use octave strings to bring all of the strings down an octave but that will change the pressure on the bridge. I've never tried it but I know it is possible. The octave strings are almost as expensive as a cheap violin though.

I agree with Mad_Wed. Put your violin for sale on Ebay or Tradera....Whatever you guys use in Norway, and take whatever money you get from selling it to buy a cheap learners viola like the CVA-500 that I am making videos with on Violaman.com

Also register for Violaman.com and follow the guidelines to be eligible to win the CVN400 give-away coming up in January. Not that many eligible right now. You never know.

Would you perfer Mr, or Senior? roflI have a thing going for impulsive etiquette poorly paced in victorian/steampunk daydreams. I only meant to be respectfull.

Welcome to the group RaggMopp !!  I'd like to suggest trying a wound E, they are a little less "shrill" and bow more like the A string.

Violins can vary quite differently from one to the next, even two that are the same make & model can sound totally different. What Ive found to be the most expensive part of violin ownership is the quest to find the perfect string set of that particular fiddle.

What works well on one may sound terrible on another.

What is a Wound(ed) "E"? Sir.

If you saw me play, you'd probably equate with some sort of misbehaviour.

embarassed

A 'wound' string is one that has a core of (sometimes) steel or plastic or gut, then the outer layer is wound around that core.  Clear as mud?
