Well, hello. I started playing the violin as therapy a few years back, trying to maintain or increase manual dexterity and keep synapses firing after a systemic infection caused some brain and brainstem damage. I'm still struggling, but doing better. I came across Mr. Fiddlermans videos on YouTube, and now that I'm trying to get a little more serious about playing, I decided to take the plunge and join the forum. I played the bass clarinet and tenor sax through junior high and high school. Reading music is coming back to me, so I have a little headstart there, hoping to learn more, and maybe contribute to others. Thanks for listening.
Lord, give me patience, because if you give me strength, I'm gonna need bail money, too!

Hi and Welcome @Raven
Are you a Poe fan? (your user name). I am!
I am a beginner violinist going into my 5th month of playing now. I feel I have accomplished much, but there is still quite a bit to go. But I am still just as enthusiastic as I was when I first picked up my violin! I just LOVE to play! For me, it holds some therapeutic effects, possibly a little different than what you describe, but possibly similar too. My violin makes me happy. I find fulfillment, I learn patience, I find peace, I have a purpose.
You have come to the right place to find some advise, support, and just friends that love music.
Welcome
- Pete -

Thanks Bocaholly, and Pete, yes, I enjoyed Poe, but I chose Raven because of a hobby of mine. I do blacksmithing as a hobby, and have a small shop. I had to come up with a name years ago, so I called it Raven Ironworks, the raven being so smart, and black, like the metal that I work with. Now it's grown so that I live in "Raven`s Nest" and I've become Raven. Also called "Jim", on occasion by some, and other unmentionable names by people sometimes referred to as "loved ones". Thanks, everyone, for the greetings!

Yeah, I get addressed in a similar manner (i.e. the unmentionable names) at times!!!
hahaha, it's all "water-off-a-duck's back" to me - all good !
And I like the background story to the name "Raven" - that's cool !

I've done a little bit of work in brass and aluminum, but only in shaping a little, like grinding and lathe work. Let me know what your idea is, I'll let you know what I can do about it! Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks Mookje...uh, how exactly do you pronounce "mookje"? I appreciate all the welcoming comments. I've been mining my way through the violin and techniques posts, boy, what a lot of information already! And very inspiring.
