Caoimhin O Raghallaigh was video playing the foxhunters reel on a hardanger violin. Thought this was very cool sounding. He has performed with the gloaming and also with Thomas Bartlett who plays piano with that group..both have several other projects going. Ive seen both in videos performing with The Gloaming but saw they also have recorded together. Really like how they play and the music they have made. This is 3 years old so getting up to speed on current events 😉😁
In addition to elcbk's topic here this is him playing on I think called viola d Amore !!!!!CORRECTION!!! its a (the) Viola Pellegrina Pomposa
quote from my own wiki link share 😅
"...Ó Raghallaigh also used to play a Viola Pellegrina Pomposa by American luthier David Rivinus, a highly asymmetrical five-string viola. "
Thank you @elcbk for pointing out the difference!

Very interesting that Caoimhin O Raghallaigh is exploring all these effects!
Didn't know he had a Viola Pomposa!
Just found more interesting info on this instrument a week or so ago.
A Viola D'amore has 6-7 strings, plus sympathetic ones - you can see Caoimhin only has 5 tuning pegs. ...maybe he'll venture there next!

The name Viola Pomposa never really clicked with me (that it was anything more than an ergonomically shaped Viola) until I saw the Debbie Green Blatt video, "From Wales to Weeping Water".
You know I can't resist a chance to plug 5-string Violins & Violas, so started this thread. 😁

@elcbk He was in Triúr sa Draighean (2010, with Peadar Ó Riada and Martin Hayes). Thats the documenatry sorta film on viveo i was speaking of.
So you shopping for a Viola Pomposa?!
This is sort of one of those Ted Talks style videos where he discusses his start, a bit about how he views the tunes, time as related to music and doing things youre passionate about and how he incorporates tech into his playing. Its interesting.. in the middle of learning what the fiddle, music, the tunes..and all the goes with it are...its neat to hear these caliber of muscians thoughts on things. then get back to practicing..lol.

At the cheaper end, I regularly use a £300 generic weighted keyboard (from Thomann, but other music shops brand the same thing as their own) that has 20 sounds and a little pair of speakers built in. I use it as a Mainstage controller but if the laptop went kaput I could DI it and the piano/organ/string sounds would get me through most of the set.
Mike so youre saying you use the thomann as a midi controller using sound libraries loaded on your laptop? But if something happened to laptop you could jist use the built in sounds on the keyboard.
did any of the vids above give ideas to use? Thought Caoimhin using a raspberry Pi was pretty cool.
