Good point Jim. It's always best to be able to do it every way just in case you need to. Either to play in a group or if you get off on your bowing in a performance, that you can keep going without switching back. :)

Well, here you are, Georganne - once through the A and once through the B part - this is where I'm at with it...  I have a few things ( bowing-wise ) to sort out and the pick-ups between A and B etc - but it's "kind of getting" to where I want it - --- hahah flying staccato included at no extra charge ( well, almost - it's actually an intentional, but, sort-of-poorly-controlled bow-bounce LOLOL )

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

It's a fun tune !  There are a few embellishments I'm working on as well - some grace-notes and trills that make it sound "more interesting when played at a slower tempo", but to my ear just get "distracting" if used at 120bpm or so ( or could be I can't move my left fingers and bow hand fast enough LOL )

@damfino - there definitely are some "technical challenges" in nailing a hornpipe - but - it is all about technique and once perfected (not that I've actually managed that yet), can be applied to many other things.   You'll be playing that sort of thing sooner than you think !

By the way, keep up your own good work, I'm following your progress reports !

It definitely sounds like a fun tune to play :)

And thanks, I hope I'll be playing this kind of stuff soon. As much as I also enjoy classical music, this is the kind of stuff that sounds the most fun to play to me :)

Oh, and hey, this is the first time I don't have to answer a math question to post, woo hoo!   :)

Ok, finally giving this song a go today for the first time. Stuff like this is the reason I wanted to learn to play, so if I heard a fun little tune I could give it a go :) It'll be my weekend project and maybe I can make a video Monday after class if I don't sound too bad, lol. It certainly is fun to try it out :)  violin-student

My daughter has this song as part of her warmup songs. She starts out slow and zips right through it. She's been asking me to play it for a looong time. I think i'll start this weekend.

Great job!!!  Thanks for the final bit of inspiration to give it a go.

@Tyberius - go for it !!!!   Yayyyy  thumbs-upthumbs-upthumbs-up

This, at the start of the B part still gets me from time to time - and I can't make up my mind about bow-direction changes - it still catches me out at times !!!

@BillyG  Did you get the sheet music for this tune from the session?

Errr... nope - well - not really....   I found a number of (slightly) different versions, and then effectively made up the sheet for myself with the timings I liked best - here it is - I make no assertion as to it being "correct" - and the hornpipe purists will probably "have a word with me" LOL - but it sounds good to me....  that's all I wanted !!

Having fun trying this out this weekend. I've got the finger work memorized, I've just got to stop my squeaking, lol. I can cross strings just fine with open bowing, but start putting fingers down and out come the squeaks, lol.

Thank you @kim-d    Now, if anyone is using the sheet I posted above, well, @Fiddlerman pointed out a couple of things ....

(1) the last note in bars 7 and 15 is scored as an A - but, by choice, I play C# there, just because I think it sounds better.  (LOL)  [ really, do as you wish ! ]

(2) There IS an error in the second note in both bar 8 and 16 - it was scored as E - it was intended to be F#

Here's an updated score, and if anyone else wants the Musescore file itself, PM me with email address as I am unable to post the .mscz file on the forum ( well, I *can* post it, but I believe only admins can see it, no-one else )

Thank you for the sheet, I printed the updated version and had a go at it the day before yesterday. I must say it's very challenging for me, my fingers won't coordinate for some of  the tune neither does my right arm, I'm stumbling all over the place, LOL I look like an accident.

Seems to be a good string changing exercise as well.

@AnnyJ It is wonderful for working on string crossings, and slurs. I had a simple version down, but my teacher taught me some new places to do slurs so now I feel like I'm relearning it, lol. I love it, though, so fun :)

I think I've got the song about as good as I'm able at this point in time. I'm going to plan on trying to get a decent recording of it after work tonight :) It's been such a fun song to work on :)

Ok, I did a new take of it. It still needs much work, and I really need to practice it with a metronome, but I have yet to do that. I'm sure it shows.

Anyway... here it is:
