This guy is amazing...good talk and music.  Check out the long slurs in the tune around 5:50 or so.  Looks like 3 or 4 measures there..haha.  Someone else in one of these type videos said something along the lines of if he has the string vibrating already..and the fingering is busy, then he just keeps going.  or if the bowing is busy then he simplifies the fingering.  anyway..not realted to this video other than how technical that tune is that Jamie plays around 5:50.  made me think of the other quote.

apologies if someone has shared this already.  i forget.

EDIT***  that nagging feeling ive seen this so started looking and   Emily @elcbk shared this in an earlier post.  Ill leave here anyway since Ive already posted and this share is mainly about the long slurs more than anything

@ABitRusty -

Yep, I mentioned this along w/link to his YouTube site in "Making Connections: Celtic Roots of Southern Music" - but nobody noticed.

Really glad you brought this up, because Jamie is one of a kind!

I'm going to have to learn to play like that - closest I'll get to Pipes!

I asked Kevin to learn to play the Pipes, but the practice chanter didn't go over too well. (lol)

@ABitRusty -

Kevin and I both really enjoy listening to Bagpipes.

Picked up a plain chanter at the Highland Games one year - we all had a ton of laughs trying to get a decent sound out of it. 🤣

Our daughter played the flute in High School - she did the best with the chanter, but wasn't really interested in learning bagpipes, unfortunately.

I have wondered if the Uilleann pipes are any easier to learn, but they are a little too expensive to buy - just to try on a whim.  Maybe I should look into them further...

Let's just say I have huge amount of respect for anyone who plays any type of Bagpipes.

Kevin did take some piano as a child but he's not really musically inclined, even though many of his siblings are - kinda ironic being Irish/Swedish.

Guess the trade off is he encouraged me to learn any instrument I wanted and has never said a word against me practicing at all hours of the day or night.

I'm VERY lucky!

Just when I think I have 'slip jigs', 'hop jigs', 'three-twos' and 'hornpipes' ALL figured out...

Jamie Laval comes along & messes with my head!

...in a good way. 😁

"Two Pantomimes" by Jamie Laval - "referencing the rhythmic styles of the Irish slip jig and hornpipe".

...makes me love it all the more!
