I think after trying to learn this stuff for a while makes hearing these even more interesting. Martin Rochford was a piper/fiddler from East Clare. Kevin Burke credits him with some tunes he learned. I also seem to remember Martin Hayes saying as much. If you watch some of Martin Hayes lesson videos youll see a picture Martin Rochford on his wall. Both Kevin and Hayes suggest spending some time exploring some of these older recordings to get a sense of what both listened to.. A reference.
I really like the Golden Castle and Otters Holt here. About halfway through he switches to pipes.

Those are very interesting recordings of Martin Rochford!
Even though this site is listed in the Traditional Celtic Music Archives Thread (and accessible in the Fiddlerman Sheet Music heading), this is the 1st time I've had a closer look at it. Not only 3 amazing collections, old session recordings of well-known fiddlers, but also quite a few tunes with notation (in this section) & recordings by local musicians.
Thanx for putting the spotlight on Martin Rochford & this wonderful source of Clare music!

This is another source of material. Includes everything from recordings to singing..some art ( tour type posters), theres some handwritten tune transcriptions. just a ton of material to sort through.

OMG! Forgot all about this site!
Some REALLY COOL old music recordings to listen to!
Oh yeah, this is another deep rabbit hole. 🤗 Nice to see more scores, the audio with them is clear midi keyboard.
Geez, even the vintage music postcards are cool!
Thank you, for reminding me (and others) - don't know when I'll have a chance to go through everything!
