FM, I can understand why you didn't use vibrato when you demode, Oh Danny Boy, but why is your cam so low that you have to get on your knees?dunno

Haha, I asked myself the same question yesterday, when watching this video. Maybe FM is trying all new angles :-) I was going to give Danny Boy a try, but stuck with the normal practice routine.

I like the video.  I've been learning it on my cello, but in a different key.  Awful squeaks.  I haven't solved that problem yet.

Gail, have you tried a little oil on the bow hair, oil is good for squeaks.violin_girl

I've been working on this song, too.  I found the sheet music online for free in several spots.  I settled on one in the key of F since my wife has some James Galway sheet music for flute that includes Danny Boy in the same key.

I like FM's version with the double stops. :)

The camera was not low, I just pointed it down towards the ground and that is why I had to get on my knees to get into the picture. Someone suggested that I film from above to see my fingers better. Was it not good that way Fiddlestix?

Sure, FM, the video was great, I was just wondering why you did it that way.

And I know the reason you played with no vibrato and made it very simple for the  beginners. I liked it.

Actually, the room that I play in is 100% dead. Makes such a difference to play in a good room. Anyone know of a good program that adds GOOD audio effects to video audio? I hate the audio effects available with iMovie.

Thank you for this version. I am finding it hard to keep in the right key but it is a good exercise for EbM.

As for effects, can you run your microphone through the effects box for your electric?

@FM, you could invest on Final Cut Express, I have used that in the past. It is very similar to iMovie, but gives you more features. There is also Final Cut Pro, but that one is a little more expensive.

Well, it looks like Apple does not sell Final Cut Express anymore, but you can find it on Amazon:

However, the Appstore does have the new Final Cut Pro X, for a nefty $299.00.

I've considered getting Final Cut Pro.... So much money though. How are the audio plug-ins on it?

Oh, I would not be able to tell you, Apple usually adds quite a bit of things to new versions, I have messed with Final Cut Express, since we have that installed on our labs here at the University, and I maintain the iMacs. The plugins in Final Cut Express were good, but took a little intuitiveness to use, apparently, I have heard that in Final Cut Pro X, these are much easier to use, and much better:

We also have Logic 9 in our iMacs, I have never had the chance to mess with that software, one of my Graduate Assistants is actually using it and writing guides on how to use it. He is a local musician, and we pretty much hired him, so he could develop guides on how to use Logic, and other software to record music, and edit it.

Many thanks to Fiddlerman for this video. It inspired me to try to learn this beloved Irish song, and to learn a new key, EbM, which I have never played before. I'm using the sheet music download from this site. I am excited because my efforts at the B, E, and A flats are sounding almost like they should. Very slow though. Maybe next St. Patrick's Day I will post a video.  Happy St. Patrick's Day, all! cheers
