Doolin is a very old hub of traditional Irish music.  A small village in County Clare, but you'll recognize many tunes from the area.

Charles Monod was originally from Switzerland, but fell in love with Irish music, made Ireland his home and started his "Tunes From Doolin" project in 2011.

Tunes From Doolin - Charles Monod's Personal Project

Charles plays concertina and has gathered music he plays from the area (played at a moderate pace) to share for others to learn - generously providing ABC notation and sheet music, too!

Great Videos like this:

Journey to the West coast of Ireland for some of the best in Traditional Irish Music! Spirit of Doolin presents OAIM uilleann pipes tutor Tom Delaney and local musician, and co-founder of Spirit of Doolin, Charles Monod playing two reels they learned from Micho Russell. The first tune is called "The Mother And Child", also known as "The Yellow Cow", and the second is one of Micho's signature tunes, "The Boy In The Gap".

Then, there's the tunes to learn:

The tunes you will find on this website are a collection of Irish Traditional Music tunes I have learned over the years in Doolin, from various sessions, friends and some recordings too.

All the tunes are written in ABC format and come in sheet music format as well. I am also hoping to be able to record as many tunes as possible in the near future and to post them here as well as on the YouTube channel (feel free to subscribe to the channel here!).

Charles has a new tune book & CD available, also!

Doolin, County Clare.

Ya know I love the short films/documentaries... here's a fairly new one I hadn't seen - came out last year.

On the west coast of Ireland, a community of musicians seek connection and joy through music as they face a modernizing world.

I LOVE Charles Monod's playing of this music, he shares a treasury (with notation on his own website).  Check out his YT Channel - here's a little about his newest project!

About The Russells of Doolin Project - part of the 'Tunes From Doolin' Project!

The FULL PLAYLIST - The Russells of Doolin (19 more VERY SHORT video interviews)

The Russells of Doolin Project Website - more history, archived materials, and extensive info/audio/notation for 3 tunes (The Humors of Glendart Jig, The Connaught Reel, and Corney is Coming Reel).

ALL Irish tunes make their way to the fiddle!

Was looking a bit closer at the the Russell brothers info while I was drinking my coffee this morning.  Their favorite pub to hang out in was O'Conners... and the folks there still commemorate the Russells and their style of playing music.

I used to wonder how anyone could dance to fast-tempo Irish tunes (other than step dancing).

Well, I finally found an answer!

Russell Festival 2023 - O'Conner's Pub, in Doolin.

Isn't it just amazing what music can do to people?

Just for laughs (and a little comparison), I've seen some fast polkas here in the USA.  Think Lawrence Welk had a partner from Ireland in this video!

@ABitRusty -

Ah ha!  So THAT'S the name for it!

Between 'Battering' and "The Ancient Art of Door Dancing" - hear the makings of Podorythmie?

Btw, was searching for a tune name off a Goitse album track & ended up back listening to Charles Monod!

I forgot to mention Charles had 10 PODCAST episodes, the "Tunes From Doolin" (of course) - supported by the Clare County Council in 2021-2022, the episodes are available on YT (Episode Playlist).  Some folks interviewed are from Clare, some came from outside then ended up in County Clare.  Even the non-fiddlers interviewed can have helpful insight into ITM - maybe even composers of music that fiddlers play.  ...haven't listened to all of them, but some GREAT info & MUSIC so far!

1.) Hugh Healy (concertina), 2.) Therese McInerney (fiddle), 3.) Kirsten Allstaff (flute), 4.) Tom Delaney (uilleann pipes), 5.) Mary MacNamara (concertina), 6.) Alan Reid (banjo - Goitse), 7.) JB Samzun (fiddle), 8.) Susan Daly (tin whistle), 9.) Claus Steinort (flute), 10.) Eugene Lambe (tin whistle)

Ive listened to those.. great podcasts!

THIS episode of blarney Pilgrams discusses the whole battering set dancing topic alot more.  Caitlin plays soooo good.  you gotta hear her if havent already.

This seems to be a good sight for more education links to set dancing groups and such.  Nothing specific to Doolin.  But since the video above, possibly related and gives more info on their group.
