When I was a kid, growing up in the 60's & 70's and listening to top hits on the radio - I heard what I thought was ROCK musicians & bands.
All these years later, learned the ones I LOVED were actually considered 'Blues Rock' - and there is an AMAZING LIST of these musicians & bands on wikipedia (how many are YOU familiar with?).
One of the defining features I heard was 'the slide'.

@stringy -
Cool to learn about John Hurt - his picking reminds me of banjo patterns.
I admire Jimi Hendrix, plus the contributions of a few others: Duane Allman, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Billy Gibbons, Jeff Beck, Joe Walsh, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Richie Blackmore, John Fogerty, Steve Winwood, Carlos Santana, etc...
Randy Bachman (Bachman-Turner Overdrive) started with Classical Violin, at age 5! Geez, he's got some fabulous stories on how he happened upon creating iconic songs!
For the 'feel' on violin, I'd still like to gain better control of 'pitch bending' - I just don't use/practice it enough... plus it's time I got back to playing with amp effects.
Blues Sliding On The Violin - Thomas Fraioli.
For ANYONE wanting to get started on Blues Violin playing, take a look at the - Fiddlerman Blues and Jazz Tutorials Playlist - 4 Blues 'Basics' tutorials backed full of simple tips/exercises, and 2 tutorials on improvisation! GREAT even for folks new to violin!
