Your teacher said to use, arm vibrato, but at 0:46 you are using your wrist, your arm is barely moving. I would think to use arm until it stopped at the body of the violin and then continue with the wrist as you're doing there.

But.... I really wouldn't know, i'm no expert.

Thank you, Pfish for sharing your tips with us.

It's great to know there are more than one single method/approach to learn as they help to enrich our knowledge and skill.

I'm happy for you that you're now getting good help/advise from your instructor.

Good job!

thumbs-up

alrighty so now Ive got the motion down to where the arm is causing the movement and not the wrist. This is difficult for me since my entire arm keeps trying to tense up. no vid of me doing it though, ha ha. So now I am to shorten the distance to 1st to 4th position but keep the speed. Man I hope this works!

I am pretty sure it will work for you, pfish. If there's any error your teacher will correct and guide you.

You will got it in no time.

My violin is a full size (4/4) however I am a 1 1/2 sized person so ratio wise it might be. lol

Hey, your last 30 days (since the video) is now up, which I think makes it 90 days overall.

I would like to see how you are going with the vibrato, please ?

Have you considered as a 1½ sized person borrowing a cello to practice (finger or wrist) vibrato ?

Or I don´t know, but maybe a 14" or 15" viola can be re-strung as a violin (probably a bad idea though, it could mess up the resonance characteristics) ?

The 4/4 violin looks un-nervingly disproportionate with you alongside it.

I strung a 16in viola as a  violin. It worked out quite well. I play it almost every day. Its a better fiddle than I am a fiddler.

Seen it all. Done it all. Can't remember most of dunno ..... What was I saying???? facepalm

I will work on putting up a progress video. I am not able to perform the vibrato though. I cant say Ive given it 100% attention or effort everyday and I am sure its one of the problems in not being able to do it. I am definately not as disciplined as I would like to be, or as much as I know Id need to be to really progress beyond hobby level.
