Yea, well I have one right now. What are good rhythm words for a reel. For a jig (6/8) it's "RASHers and SAUSages, RASHers and SAUSages..." For a slip jig (9/8) it's "TATers and RASHers and SAUSages, TATers and RASHers and SAUSages...". But the reel being in 4/4, some have suggested "WAtermelons, WAtermelons..." But the reel seems to have a subtle and slightly different swing than just a simple ONE two three four. Not as much as a hornpipe, but not just a straight forward emphasis on the first beat either. Any suggestions? Did I mention that, by far, the hardest part of music for me is rhythm.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. ~Herm Albright

This perhaps.. is my biggest problem. I never learned to count or make rhythm sounds.... I need to get a teacher for that. My violin buddy that plays forever... she learned at 7.. she has played for 23 years. She can help me a little but it is so automatic to her that I don't think she can break it down in "dunce rhythm" mode for me.
I was getting the hang of it in School but my theory class covered all this section of rhythm in one class. .. One lecture.. one test.. and it tends to fly out the door even though I got an A on the test.
I need to start making rhythm notes on my sheet music I believe.

@Fiddlerman thank you so much. What a great help. I will be using that piece to practice.
This is going to sound so silly....hearing you count the "1 & da..." while playing helped quite a bit. I was not quite catching that. My studies at school were mostly writing so we wrote it out. Not so much with the counting or counting with a view to playing violin.
I soooooo wish I had learned this better in the beginning.. but I am eager to get learning and practicing with your help.
Thanks again,
Toni

@Fiddlerman ( or anyone)
Counting the 4/4 or 3/4 is pretty clear when the measure is all whole, half or quarter, eighth notes, but I get a little shakey when it is a run of notes of all kinds. I would like to see if I have this counting down.
.....so if I may present a measure....
3/4 time sig { dotted quarter (1 & 1/2 beats) , 8th (1/2 beat) , dotted 8th (3/4 beat), 16th (1/4beat)}
It happens to be the 2nd measure in Thaxted, Violin one.
Would you mind telling me how you would count it out. Either with the 1,2,3 or the 1,2,3 with the segments or both pretty please.
Thanks so much.
