I have been thinking of attending an Adult Strings Camp, particularly Scor!.
Any thoughts for a 2 1/2 year adult starter.. Scor! or any other programs?

I attended something similar geared toward old time music recently and enjoyed it. Go for it! did you check out the where do you fit link? I think that would be important to ensure you get the most out of it. Its fun being immersed in an environment for a few days with people there for the same purpose. I'll sign up for the event I attended next year baring life getting in the way.

Thanks for the quick reply GregW ..
I have chatted with one of the owners, it would be my choice, either be an advanced beginner or beginning intermediate according to her. Which is changeable at any time.
Can't argue about be around other like minded, I throughly enjoy the New Horizons group I joined, adult starters/returners..

I've heard a lot of good things about SCOR, for all the levels that are offered; I know at least one person who has participated in each track from beginner to advanced.
All the camps offer at least beginner and intermediate programs; a few of them also offer a "Performance Track" for advanced players that I've heard is good for people all the way up to near-professional level. I only haven't participated myself because Performance Track isn't available anywhere west of the Mississippi.

Thanks for confirming what I have heard about Scor! AndrewH ..
As for East coast, Since my 4 daughters have moved out, you'd think we'd have extra room. But that is not the case, as they seem to consider their old rooms, storage lockers

Humm Christmas presents... There wouldn't be enough room, 4 daughters, hoarders like their parents...
I am 99.9% sure I will be going. My teacher, New Horizons coach and the other NH members all think it will be positive. Umm, the other members, for my benefit or theirs
Looks like Rochester will be the one I will attend, anyone else?

Sorry, I don’t play with others and too much money. I a, solely doing this for myself and amusing myself
I never thought about playing with others, but when my teacher suggested I join the New Horizons group (adult starters/returners), reminding me how much fun he and I have playing together... Playing with others is a hoot, if you get a group like the one I am in. Music, kind of, laughing at ourselves always (oh, I thought she said from the top or oh you said d major scale, not d flat, no wonder I sounded out of tune)..
Rochester will be more dollars, since it is 4 days instead of the normal 3.. Baltimore and RI are closer, but family vaca collides (not going to miss my 2 1/2 year old grandsons first visit to Disney)..

Hi JRS Jr. Late reply but here goes:
Three of us from my community orchestra attended Scor! last year. Two of us (with 1 1/2 to 3 years of adult learning under our belts) attended the beginners section. The third, who had played as a child and had been playing again for 4 years, joined the intermediate group.
For all three of us, it was a 100% positive experience.
Could the two of us who chose the beginners group have slipped into the intermediate section? Sure. But it was both relaxing and instructive to play first violin with confidence rather than playing 2nd with a generous "fudge-factor" as I often have to do in orchestra at home.
Additionally, there are plenty of sessions where all levels of one instrument are in a workshop together.
We attended the R.I session. Gotta love Narragansett. I will do Scor! again, for sure... but maybe another location just for fun.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.
